NROTC Dodmerb Questions

To preface this, I applied for the NROTC scholarship program but have received no update to my application status. So, I just received a notification that the Navy ROTC program is requesting my dodmerb from the dodmerb website. I previously had the exam for the service academies so the results were already on hand. Does anyone know if this is a signal that I was picked up for the scholarship or is it just the Navy requesting it in advance?

Generally they only do this for scholarship winners, but it is not always the case. I've seen many applicants through the years who go through DoDMERB without receiving a scholarship.

@Thunder_318 = send me an email: lawrence.e.mullen.civ@mail.mil; provide complete name and last 4 SSN; paste the text of your posting to your email; also add which NROTC program

I "think" I just replied to you, but you didn't follow these instructions ...so I'm not sure:zip:

DS is an applicant for NROTC and received the same DODMERB exam request by NROTC yesterday, determined today to be qualified (based on existing Service Academy DODMERB entries), yet NROTC application status still shows pending a decision. Fingers crossed he has the same outcome as the OP!

Not sure why AFJAG posted this on ROTC instead of DoDMERB......If the SA was USNA, USCGA, or USMMA, it should be.... :wiggle:

Because I had the same "NROTC dumb question" as the OP, sir, and thought chronicling what we find out might help others. The other SAs where DS received "Qualified" DODMERB determinations are USCGA (denied at early decision) and USAFA (still pending regular decision). Am I posting to the wrong place since DS' latest DODMERB entry, yesterday, and "Qualified" determination, today, is NROTC...where his status remains, "No decision has been made on your application"?

Let me answer this way:

I suspect I've offered my direct email address to DS'/DD' probably 200 times throughout these forums. So, clearly, I've extended my assistance until I'm blue in the face. So, if those applicants have questions, I'm here. For parents...not so much. DoDMERB has nothing to do with "applications," but has 100% to do with DoDMERB medical determinations. I've addressed at least 50 times with applicants that have DoDMERB decisions, that are not reflecting on their SA portals for lengthy periods...and on other SA portals within a day or two after DoDMERB decisions have been made, where the SA's have just not updated their portals yet. For ROTC folks, unless they've been awarded a scholarship, they may have a DoDMERB Qualified status for one program, but if they haven't been awarded a scholarship for let's say NROTC, they won't have a DoDMERB Qualified certification for NROTC.

The bottom line is: I'm here to assist applicants who have specific DoDMERB questions. I do this throughout the day and night, 7 days per week. Much of what I write here is augmented by the document on the DoDMERB website, "Questions on the process.":wiggle:

My interpretation: “God — and Mr. Mullen — helps those who help themselves.”

Should be gospel for anyone applying to SAs or for ROTC scholarships.

With all due respect, it seems as if AFJAG is just commenting on the fact that their DS is in the same boat as OP, and not necessarily asking for any sort of advice/help. Just simply stating that their DS is in the same boat and that they hope they receive the same outcome as OP. As far as the SA talk goes, they were just saying that like the DoDMERB SA requests, they are expecting to be Qualified for the newly requested NROTC request, hence why they are hopeful.

Thanks. To further clarify, NROTC requested DS' DODMERB medical review despite that he is still waiting to hear from them on scholarship selection. That review request got returned by DODMERB the very next day as "Qualified," with no action on DS' part, because DS already had his medical docs and exams determined to be "Qualified" by DODMERB for two SA applications.

All I was observing was that this appears to be a good omen based on the OP's experience...and that I would follow up with DS' outcome for others' enlightenment as to whether or not this really is a significant development or not.

I wasn't asking for DODMERB assistance and, yes, Mr. Mullen goes above and beyond in assisting applicants in understanding and shepherding those requirements. I think the DODMERB process is quite streamlined and the website is terrific at providing info. If DS needed DODMERB assistance, it would be DS -- not me -- requesting it.

If parents aren't welcome to post here, then I will refrain from doing so again. I certainly did not intend to provoke anyone's ire or disdain. My son has done 100% of all work necessary to apply and comply with all requirements. I am just a spectator with a self-serving monetary interest in his success, which extends beyond my support for his pursuit of life goals.

Closing the loop: DS' Netfocus scholarship status just updated to reflect NROTC scholarship award, so the timeline was as follows:

-met late Jan board but wasn't selected
-not selected for early Feb board
-selected in late Feb board
--Tue NROTC submitted the DODMERB request
--Wed DODMERB returned "Qualified" (based on existing SA medical reviews)
--Thu status updated in Netfocus mid-afternoon (no email or other communication yet) to reflect scholarship award

Best wishes to all and, again, apologies if I muddied this forum in any way. Nothing but praise for the work Mr. Mullen (particularly his personal interest in assisting) and DODMERB do in efficiently processing what must be a dizzying volume of documents and communications.
