NROTC Instant Scholarship

Oldish thread...

But what were your son's SAT scores and GPA to receive the instant scholarship?

My DS NROTC 2014 was informed he received an "instant" scholarship in Sept 2009 as he was getting together his application materials for the USNA. He hadn't really thought about NROTC much as he was just coming out of the summer USNA program and a childhood of dreaming about the Navy and was really enthused about the USNA. At times- I thought he was being pushed towards the ROTC program. He did, however, submit all the paperwork. applications for ROTC just as he did with the USNA. Then, when the USNA recruiter visited us- he informed my son that he could be taking some of his advanced level math over again if he started at the academy- and he could just relax during those classes and review. I could see the crestfallen look on my sons face during that interview. NROTC offered my son a way to achieve his tier 1 degree and have access to the classes that he needed. Now, one year later to quote my DS "I love the Navy" He feels very privileged that he has this opportunity to serve AND to work on his specific degree in preparation for a career as a Naval Officer. By the way- despite two noms, cross country, leadership, high GPA and near perfect ACT,SAT- he was not admitted into the USNA. We now know that NROTC was a better course for him and I can't help but think that someone in the whole process knew that well before my son did- I'm not sophisticated enough about the whole process to know.
Also, DS was able to change his assigned school in the spring when he decided he would rather go to University A rather than B
