Hello! I am applying for NROTC and I finally decided, after looking at their list of majors on their website, that I wanted to major in Microbiology and Immunology, but when I went to choose that major on my application, it was not listed. If anyone can point out what I am missing that would be awesome! Thanks!

If you choose NROTC/Marine option or Army they don't care what your major is. The Navy and Air Force wants STEM majors.

On my portal for NROTC, it wants me to choose a major I intend to pursue at the school I go to. On their website they have microbiology listed as one of there majors offered but it is not in the drop down menu on my portal to choose for that specific question, thats what I am confused about. I wasn't sure if it was because they updated their majors, or I was just missing something! Thanks!

What are the "Bio" options you have online that would be tier 2?

So, they have Microbiology listed on their website but not in the portal so that is where I run into the issue. On their portal, which is where I choose from, they have biology and general life sciences and biological sciences and those are not listed on their website. I do not know if microbiology is under one of those or not.

If biology and general life science and biological sciences listed as tier 2 majors on your porta, choose any of them, it is close enough.

If the portal does not tell you what tier the major is, then wait. There is a very big difference during the selection process between a tier 2 and tier 3 major. Follow the instructions on the NROTC web site "If you have questions about how a major at a particular school fits into our Navy ROTC academic major tier categories or our language program, please contact the Navy ROTC unit located at that school. Or, you can contact the Navy ROTC scholarship office at pnsc_nrotc_cgo@navy.mil"

One thing you could do is call the unit at the college.... they should know what tier that course falls into and how to translate it to the portal choices, given that it's their unit and college. They might very well have midshipmen taking that major. Also a good way to say hey!

Also, this is on the NROTC web site:
