I am currently in the process of filling out the application for the Marine Corps option NROTC scholarship application and I have some questions:

1) I will be taking my senior year classes at the local JC so do I need to put that down where it asks for colleges with the prospective dates that I will be attending (08/08) and departing (05/09)? I will still be graduating from my high school however I have exasperated the advance courses that I can take so I am continuing with my education.

2) According to the Marine Corps NROTC requirements "Students w/ more than 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of college credit upon application or students already enrolled in NROTC College Program are not eligible for four-year NROTC Scholarships; these students should see professors of naval science at host university's NROTC unit to discuss other scholarship opportunities" - Fall semester (2008) I will be taking 13 or 13.5 units (19 hrs/ week) and Spring semester (2009) 13 units (20 hrs/ week). Does this mean that I will not be eligible for a 4-year scholarship?

3) Do you have to apply to all 5 colleges that you list? I was only going to apply to my top 3 (VMI, Norwich, and UCLA) is that OK? - NROTC is my backup for the USNA, USCGA, and USMMA.

Thank you in advance!
Very Respectfully,
Kathleen

Kathleen,

you should definitely ask your recruiter about the JC. you can find him/her at:
https://www.nrotc.navy.mil/NRD_locator.cfm

looks like you will have at most 26.5 semester hours, so you will be ok. semester hours are units, not the actual number of hours you are in class. :)

and go to VMI! i'm headed there myself in a few weeks!

So, should I not have my AP test scores reported then? (I am taking the AP Phys, AP Chem, APUSH, and AP Lang. and Comp. tests this year and next year I will be studying for AP Gov. and AP Microeconomics).
Thank you for the link!

look on the app, but i don't think NROTC scholarship ppl collects AP test scores. of course you can mention them in the details and in your essays. they will want your JC transcripts though, along with your HS transcripts

The only reason for reporting AP scores is so that you can get credit for those classes at your college. Not quite like the SAT.

I am in the process of applying for the NROTC/MC Option myself and you will see at the bottom of a page (and I think it's in another color) that you MUST select 5 colleges or your application will not be reviewed. With that said you do not HAVE to apply to those colleges, however if your scholarship is awarded for a school you were not accepted to, you basically didn't get the scholarship. I too was only planning to apply to three NROTC colleges but am now applying to 5 at the advices of my SASI (AFJROTC). I just did a college search of NROTC colleges in my region who had my major of choice. They arn't places I'd LOVE to go, but as long as they're paying for it I'll go along with it.

Not at all - you are most certainly eligible for a 4 year scholarship. You will be matriculating at college as a first year college student - even if you have college credit from high school.

I don't want to be a know-it-all or annoying or anything, but maybe check the definition of "exasperated" where you say
"I will still be graduating from my high school however I have exasperated the advance courses that I can take so I am continuing with my education."
I believe exasperate means to anger or like inflame or something.
Just for future reference...:thumb:

Oh and by the way, Yeah for applying for Marine-option NROTC!!
