NROTC Marine Option MO Board Results 2022-23

In the past, the online portal was notoriously unreliable - especially when mass changes were made. Hang in there.
Yeah. It is just killing me because the JROTC commander at our school (we have 400+ cadets, maybe the most in the nation?) just called me and asked if my wife and I could attend their big JROTC ceremony tomorrow at 10:40. My kid gets lots of top awards but this seems [hopefully....] different?

I will not tell my wife or my kid about the phone call. MTF after the ceremony.

If I may ask, how will I be notified if I've been awarded the scholarship or deferred to the regular board? Will my coordinator reach out to me and let me know, or should I reach out to him? Thank you for your time.

The status on my kid's application updated from "Your application is at the regional board" to the dreaded "No decision has been made" category and listed preferred colleges and stuff.
This doesn't knock him out for the second board but is disappointing awarded the scholarship
So was notified last night that our son was awarded the NROTC MO scholarship when we meet at the station. His NETFOCUS page did the same thing. Was told email notifications would come out soon but the District staff wanted him to hear it directly from them first and not via email. Scholarship was to Texas A&M. Gig’em!

As for his application, he has a 3.99 out of 4.0 GPA, 34 ACT, 6 AP classes, NHS President, Varsity letters in two sports, Team Captain two sports, Youth Leader at church, National Merit Scholar Letter of Commendation. Did well on his PT test, 13 pull ups, maxed planks, and run was around 22 min. We are above 5,000 feet so there’s an adjustment to the score for elevation.

Son had good relationships with Marine station staff. When they came to high school he always stopped by to talk with the recruiter so they knew him. I think that was very helpful for him.

He’s waiting on word for Noms and applications for USNA and USAFA.

Awesome and congrats! My kid's best friend is going to A&M on a four-year AF ROTC scholarship.

DS got the 4 year MO NROTC scholarship!

He doesn't know yet. The Marine officers are coming to his school tomorrow with "the Big Check".

Stats for those trying to read the tea leaves or looking to prepare themselves down the road:

I was worried because his SAT wasn't great (1180) but he was solid in every other way.

I think what was most important is he displays Presence, Confidence, and Character, and is 1,000% serious about becoming a Marine officer AND REALLY UNDERSTANDS WHAT THAT MEANS. He has an understanding of military history that I also think helped, particularly with the essays and interviews as he could apply his life experiences to real-world military/leadership problems.

He ranked 12 of 287 in his class with lots of AP and honors. 4.0 unweighted. 4.15 weighted. In context, last year's graduating class has 4 kids right now at West Point, USAFA, and USNA plus ROTC scholarships and Ivies.

PFT was 267: maxed plank, short two pull-ups, run 20-something.

Athletics: Was captain of the school's largest extra-curricular team (JROTC Raiders) with about 150 kids participating. This is basically a team ultimate-fitness challenge running through various obstacle courses with heavy weights until you puke. For an entire day. Most people have never heard of it but in this town, it's basically a cult. Took second at the national championship out of 161 teams. Played JV baseball 2 yrs and varsity wrestling for the next 2.

Student Council, Boys State, NHS VP, volunteers at church, worked some part-time jobs. Lots of awards.

He also demonstrates a good sense of humor and kind of like Ferris Buehler has friends in all of his high school's stereotypical groups. In other words, he's not 2-dimensional and doesn't limit himself to a single social group which is so easy for high school students to do.

If you are thinking of applying for a Marine Option NROTC scholarship this blog is a MUST READ http://www.thesandgram.com/2011/01/18/nrotc-marine-option-scholarships/ (which I found on this site)

Just my thoughts.

Now that this is finished my 8th grader wants to go to USMA so on to the next project...

Congratulations to those who have earned the scholarship. A note of caution, there is still a DODMERB physical which can present landmines and the student needs to finish high school with similar grades (rather than tank) and stay out of trouble. Every year, we see scholarships lost for each of these reasons.

Absolutely. Ironic in so many ways that I as a parent now worry that the government may find DS not healthy enough to get shot at.

What school did his scholarship get awarded too?
I am assuming University of Kansas. Haven't officially been told which college the Marine Corps wants him to go to. He also did Notre Dame but he seems set on KU. I am selfish because KU is only 45 minutes away and already gave him a $20K scholarship he can use for room and board. He also has a long-term girlfriend here which might have tipped the scales, too.

Just did the "Big Check" ceremony at the HS with the OSO and local recruiter during DS's JROTC class with about 40 kids and many teachers/faculty in attendance. What an experience! DS had no idea! When he saw my wife and I appear and walk to the front of the classroom followed by the Marines he looked like he was going to burst into tears! It was fantastic he had so many friends there for his big moment!

I was surprised at my high school with a "big Check " NROTC MO scholarship on Thursday. My parents , teachers, press and administrators were all there. They had called me down and made me think I was in trouble for something. As soon as I saw the Captain in the room they took me to, I knew something was up.

Congrats to all those selected.

My son has applied for NROTC MO. Interview was in November and we're currently waiting on his results. Glad I was able to find this forum. Great information and advice for all.
