NROTC Marine Option Scholarship Notification

DS got an email this week saying the board was complete and to expect results in the next few weeks. Nothing has changed in the portal.

saw some chatter in another thread re: announcements. Hoping to bump this up to the front page to focus on the Marine Option notifications.

Any updates?

My son received a phone call on Tuesday to let him know he was chosen for a MO scholarship. That's all the info we have received. The recruiter didn't know which school, so we are waiting to find out. He was wait listed at one of the schools on his list and may need to ask for the scholarship to be transferred. Keeping our fingers crossed that it all works out.

Good luck to everyone else.

Out of curiosity, any change in his portal?

Congrats to your son and good luck with the transfer (if necessary)...it never ends!

Ok...so on the good news side, results are coming out. One way or the other, this cycle will end. On the bad news side.....no phone call yet....

Same here. I put my son on alert. I don't know which phone # he put on his application, though or if our RS is big on phone calls.

We're in the 4th District...OSO has been pretty good about communicating....which makes me more uneasy...that said, the Districts released results at different times after the early board...roughly over a 2-3 week period....

Grats on the good news! My DS just headed out to Fort Custer for 4 days of Bulldog prep. They are going to be running around out in the cold rain/sleet and getting yelled at by the drill instructors. He does not yet know if he will be able to stay in after this semester but he sure he wouldn't want to miss this weekend for anything.

rocatlin & USMCdad,

how do you know which district you are in (of course I mean USMC schol board district, not congr!)

westcoastmom,

did the recruiter say how/when to expect further details/notification?

DS was just called by recruiting commander and notified of Marine Option scholarship to first choice school! Yea!

The Marine Corps Recruiting Command (MCRC) is responsible for military recruitment of civilians into the USMC.

The Marine Corps manages the recruiting districts by dividing the country in half using the Mississippi River as a marker. Generally, all areas west of the Mississippi River are covered by the Western Recruiting Region and all areas east are covered by the Eastern Recruiting Region. Each recruiting region is divided into three districts for a total of six Recruiting Districts across the nation. Each District then is broken into Recruit Stations. Each Marine Recruit Station (RS) has 10-15 Marine Recruit Substations (RSS). There are approximately 48 recruiting stations in the nation and about 575 recruiting sub-stations.

1st Marine Corps Recruiting District Includes Albany, Buffalo, Harrisburg, New Jersey, New York, Pittsburgh, Portsmouth and Springfield areas.

4th Marine Corps Recruiting District Includes Baltimore, Charleston, Cleveland, Detroit, Frederick, Louisville, Raleigh, and Richmond recruiting offices.

6th Marine Corps Recruiting District Includes Atalanta, Baton Rouge, Columbia, Ft Lauderdale, Jacksonville, Montgomery, Nashville and Orlando USMC recruiting offices.

8th Marine Corps Recruiting District Includes Albuquerque, Dallas, Denver, Forth Worth, Houston, Oklahoma City, Phoenix, and San Antonio Marine Corps recruiting areas.

9th Marine Corps Recruiting District Includes Kansas City, Chicago, Des Moines, Indianapolis, St Louis, Lansing, Milwaukee, Minneapolis and St Paul recruiting offices.

12th Marine Corps Recruiting District Includes Portland, Sacramento, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Orange County Marine Corps recruiting offices.

Here is a pretty interesting powerpoint on USMC recruiting: http://www.cops.usdoj.gov/pdf/confer...esentation.pdf

DS just heard from the Capt at the recruiting command here in CA. He received NROTC-MO scholarship to University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. He also has an appointment to USNA. Decision time now...A good problem to have

Congrats! Do you know what Recruiting District you're in? Just trying to get sense of how things are rolling out.

We're in the 4th District. Based on the posts today, my son called the RS. OSO told him he hasn't gotten the notice yet. He said they're awaiting final decision of the Frederick C Branch scholarship/placement of those students and then the rest will come out for our District.

We're looking at another 2-3 weeks.
