Has anyone heard any news about their Marine Option application, affirmative or negative? Thank you.

The early board (Nov) recepients would have bee notified by now. The "regular" board hasn't met yet. Those results are usually communicated by April/May.

Would there have been an update if scholarship was denied? All necessary paperwork was turned in with interviews and PFT completed by early board deadline. Still no news.

My DD was awarded the MO scholarship on the early board. She was told only ten were selected for the early board, however it was unclear if that was ten nationwide or in just one district. There have been very few on this forum that were selected in the early board.

I have seen some rejections on here, so my guess is that no news is good news for you. It means you're still in the game. Hang in there!

Thank you! I am married to a Marine so I am used to 'hurry up and wait' - that is easy!, but the NROTC thing is new to us. Do you mind me asking where you are located? We are in FL - I have only heard of rejections from our district so far.

We live in Missouri but my DD is a rat (freshman) at VMI. Since she's a freshman she was awarded the four year national scholarship. I am not sure what district she went through though. Her interview was conducted in Missouri at the recruiters, but with a Skype link to a Colonel somewhere else (no idea who or where - I wasn't there). Her PFT was done and submitted while she was at VMI.

Last year, she had applied to USNA (had a nom but was turned down late March), and she applied for the Navy scholarship (rejected). She applied this year for the Marines.

Each recruiting district notifies differently from what I've observed over the last couple of years. Portals may or may not be updated. One thing you could do is contact the RS that is handling your packet to see if they can give you feedback. Just keep engaged in the process--meaning the applicant, not the parent. :)

Good to know. Son has contacted RS once
before holiday, once after end of second semester with update on grades/sports. No reply. No news is good news though. Thanks for the updates/advice.

As I recall, my son was notified (years ago) via email after the first board. He was encouraged to update his package, which we did. All that is a way of saying, be sure to check your spam email folder!

Great to know! I will pass this on to my son. Have a great weekend!

My DS was contacted by the XO and told that he did not make the first board but was still in the running. He made suggestions on where he needed to improve on the PFT (pull ups) and he's now preparing to retake the PFT in February. I also have seen very little on here regarding NROTC MO. I'm not sure if they send out denials or if everyone is moved to the next selection board. This is all new for us.

Each recruiting district communicates differently. There are 9 districts with multiple RS (recruiting stations) underneath.

Back on my son's first go around, he (and others) were notified on the early board that no one was awarded a scholarship. He received no notification on the second board. (The person handling the packet had gotten out of the Corps)

Here is a post regarding my son's journey through the process:

People not awarded scholarships are rolled over to the next board. A denial is received at the end of the process. Sometimes one will be notified that they weren't selected by the first board.

wow your son got a 285+ pft and still got denied his first try. That just shows how competitive it is to be a Marine. In my district in MD we find out sometime this month whether we got a scholarship from the first board.

It was pretty agonizing and confusing at the time. The Captain that replaced the Marine that left was completely surprised and walked the packet through every step of the way for the second go round. All turned out well, he got the scholarship and has done well. He is set to go to OCS Bulldog this summer. He also was "voluntold" to try for an aviation contract -- and received one. Perseverance pays off.

Awesome! He'll love Bulldog and The Quigley!

OP: just to be clear, Marines expect applicants to be in excellent shape and do well on the PFT. However, there are many other aspects to the application and decision to award scholarships. I am sure you realize this but for the benefit of future readers I wanted to add this commentary.

To add to Grunt's point...always have a plan B, C, D, etc. in place.

Yes, my son (and I) were surprised he didn't get the scholarship with his stats. He got over the stun of it and tried again for 4 year scholarship -- with essentially the same stats plus some fortunate timing that his MOI was on the early board. (That was his plan B or plan A prime or whatever)

Things can happen in the process that are beyond the applicants control. The applicant should put together the best packet possible and keep informed along the way.
