As the title states, I was DQ from NROTC-MO due to hearing. This is really disappointing, as all I want is to go to TAMU, then become an Officer. I feel my situation is unique from others in this forum as previously I have passed a hearing test at MEPS when I was going to enlist. Although the hearing test for the scholarship was more recent, it was not performed in a quiet room. I was able to hear footsteps and doors closing in the background while the test was going on. I called a DODMERB Technician and they told me to email them a memorandum stating the above so that they could forward it to a doctor to see if they want to have me retest or take a waiver. I have done this, and am now waiting to hear back. Along with this, the local recruiter contacted the XO, who they said emailed a Sgt. Maj. at Central Command to see if there is anything he can do. What should I do from here? If anyone wants, I can attach the memorandum for y'all to read if that helps.

With a DQ you should be able to retest or see a specialist (I think).
How would I go about this? Go ahead and schedule an audiology with an ENT? Wait for DODMERB to recommend me to a doctor to do this similar to the physical originally?

With the documentation you have submitted, you likely would be able to get a re-test from DoDMETS and they will direct you to another audiologist. I would wait for now.

Only if they deny you the re-test (or send you back to the noisy place), then I would find a local audiologist and pay for a re-test on my own dime and then submit it to your DoDMERB technician with a letter explaining the results.

Thank you, I am assuming that the timing for this varies case to case. I am also talking to someone in ROTC who said I should have put the date of the MEPS audiology test on the paper also.

Also, does anyone know whether or not DODMERB should be emailing updates and information to me also? I'm just wondering, because it seems like theres a lack of communication between what I am supposed to do in order for DODMERB to continue the process. My email is correctly listed on their website.

Etarv,

Being an engineer and working around turbines my entire career hearing test are completed yearly. I’m not sure what you’re up against but I have a thought if you can indeed retest and a solution.
1. You are a “youth”. I’m confident that you often have your headphones on and maybe listen to some of your jams a little too loud. This can affect a test.
A. Solution:
i. From now until your retest back off on the volume with your buds

The DoDMERB techs are busy.

The best thing to do is continue watching your DoDMERB portal and watch for any snail mail correspondence or remedial requests.
If you don't hear anything for two weeks, then give your DoDMERB tech a call for an update.
