Reading through old threads I've seen a bit about the NROTC waiver process, but I couldn't find much on my chances of getting a waiver for the Marine Option scholarship with my vision being not correctable to 20/20 (my doctor says it's correctable to 20/15... don't get me started, I sent them that already). I received a waiver for USNA, but I know the Navy and the Marine Corps can have different standards. Any ideas/help?

Thanks!

Here's the requirement:
At least 20/400 or 20/200 vision corrected to 20/20 with eyeglasses or contact lenses. Depth perception and color blindness is also tested.
From here: https://www.usmc.net/enlisted_requirements/
Of course USMC aviation may have somewhat different requirements. Also, these are for enlisted bt I don't think officer requirements are any different.

Is your uncorrected vision worse than the above which may be the cause? Otherwise, as I understand it 20/15 is better than 20/20 but then I only play a doctor on TV.

Waivers are granted by the commissioning authority, so USNA and NROTC (any option) may do different things regarding waivers. I seem to recall reading on a recent thread that there are no vision waivers for NROTC, only for USNA, but that may just be my feeble and confused memory.

EDIT: On further researching the threads the hard and fast 'no' for NROTC was color vision, so it should not apply in your case.

EDIT: What does DoDMERB have as your vision? Perhaps there was a numeric transposition or something. Perhaps worthwhile to contact your DoDMERB technician.

My vision is correctable to better than 20/20 according my own optometrist but on DoDMERBs file it is correctable to slightly worse that 20/20. I got my waiver for USNA but I submitted extra paperwork showing my doctors own exams hoping they would take that OR let me redo my vision exam.

Is this something I should go to my DoDMERB technition and bring up? I stopped worrying about it after USNA waived it... who knows where the medical records I sent it went...

Also, anyone know why they test depth perception? Couldn’t find a source on that, but it didn’t disqualify me and I failed that miserably! Wonder what it’s used for... aviation?

Well I'm no expert, but my own logic tells me to pursue removing the DQ with DoDMERB, then the waiver becomes moot, especially since they have incorrect info.
