NROTC Navy Results

Thank you for the reply...
Also, if I accept a ROTC program (school) to attend, using my ROTC Scholarship, can I transfer the scholarship in a year ? I unfortunately missed out on my first choice, and would like to reapply next year (if at all possible to transfer the scholarship there).

How many times on this thread, and others, are you going to ask the same question? You may or may not be able to transfer it. You will require permission from, at least, the two units and probably the Brigade Level, If the Brigades are different then it becomes a little harder. All you can do is try, and if denied, then either decide to transfer with the scholarship, transfer without it, or remain where you are. The only way to find out for sure is to go through the process at the proper time. I don't think I'd recommend approaching my unit officers with that right out of the gate.

Thanks, I have no plans on asking “right out of the gate”.

Just grateful to have the ROTC Scholarship in hand, grateful to have been accepted to a top school / ROTC program, grateful to have this forum and experienced moderators to give insight.

As you probably know, different possibilities keep presenting themselves day to day. Just when you think, you have a plan, another option refeals itself. I prefer asking a moderated question here, than calling the ROTC desk, admissions, etc. more than I have to.

Thanks for your assistance

Is there a limit on how many times ??? :)

Quick question, my DD has been awarded both an AROTC and NROTC 4 year scholarships. She is currently trying to make a decision on which branch, but NROTC is due today. Her acceptance letter says the decision to accept can be withdrawn later. Any body else ever withdraw their acceptance and how long you have? I know, lucky enough to have to make this decision, but as a parent, a little nerve racking as this MUST be her decision and not mine.

You can withdraw your decision at any time through freshman year. The scholarship is non-binding. They cannot make you take it and attend that college, even if you accept. Further the first year of the scholarship is on them. She can drop NROTC anytime up to the first day of classes of her sophomore year. She ought to be able to decide by now based on which jobs, in which service, she would like to pursue, but it's OK to accept now and change her mind later.
If she does change her mind she should do the unit the courtesy of informing them.

Ugh, another question - DD told me she heard, that if she accepts another ROTC program she MUST decline AROTC? She has until the end of April for her AROTC decision, if she accepts Navy now, will she not be able to change her mind to Army in another 2 weeks? Yes she is still undecided, crazy I know.

I've never heard of that happening but things do change and I am not willing to say she is wrong. Perhaps someone was speaking to her in their own moral terms, but she earned both scholarships and has a right to do whatever she wants with them.

I would say to just make her sit down, do the research on jobs available in each service, make a list of those she would be willing to do (because we don't always get first choice, and make a decision. There is really no reason to be undecided at this point other than self-inflicted drama.

EDIT: Sometimes a single coin can be helpful.

That’s what I was thinking: time to decide.

Sometimes we can be afraid to decide. But it always seems to be a big WEIGHT off the proverbial shoulders to have made a decision. Sometimes we have to make decisions from a gut, too. Without feeling fully confident we have all the information. That’s life! But at this point, it’s seems like it’s time. Not much will change in two weeks.

Very good advice to think about her 2nd choice of service jobs...if she is truly dead even with both choices. Will be interested to see what she chooses!!

Hi @NOVAMom, May I ask please if you could confirm and share the exact details about what she heard about "must decline AROTC if she accepts another program"? I assume your DD made a decision for NROTC by their deadline - did you confirm if saying yes to NROTC meant an obligation to provide an immediate decline to AROTC? The advise on this board previously on this topic was very consistent - that accepting ROTC offers is non-binding and can be changed if a SA or different ROTC offer comes in later that the student would prefer. I also heard the same directly from a ROO as we explored options to move one of my DS' 4 year awards to a different university a month ago. Where did this information come from/ what specifically is the obligation? Please share if you can as I think it would be helpful for others to know what you've found, please. Please also share back with the group what she decides since we're all rooting for her and the other young people making these key decisions. Thanks!

It was nothing official, just from a friend who was in the same boat, but AROTC and AFROTC (and was told that somewhere, sorry). She decided to go with ARTOC after all, so she declined Navy on Friday (be still my heart).
