Hello all,

I am currently a senior in high school, and I've applied for both USNA and NROTC at Arizona State University. I was admitted for Tier 1 Astronautics into ASU, while currently awaiting Honors College decision.

I've seen some posts about NROTC candidates being notified: I haven't. It's my understanding that the Navy does not release their board dates I e-mailed the NROTC office at ASU about (before I found out about boards) and they replied with the following:

" Thank you for your email. I spoke with our Captain and he says that if you have not heard anything yet, it means that you are still in the running for the scholarship. At the very latest you will find out by the end of April."

I'm probably just letting my nerves get the best of me, but I'm just really anxious to hear back.
Can anyone tell me the details of their (or their child's) scholarship?
3 or 4 year? First choice of schools?

And lastly, does anyone know fore sure if end of April really means the end of April? I know USNA has a notification deadline of April 15.

Be prepared to wait until mid to late April. DS did not get a negative reply until mid April. No worries because we had good backup plans in place and plenty of time to execute. Message - keep working your backup plans... It will also take your mind off your worries.

Agree with @kinnem. To expand on the other part of your question, if you are a high school senior applying for NROTC, you are applying for the 4 year national scholarship. That is all you can apply for as a high school senior. The three year only comes into play if you join NROTC as a college programmer and apply for it the spring semester of your freshman year.

From what I understand, I'm just applying for the scholarship. The 3 or 4 year determination comes down from the board involving such factors as major/tier, academics/test scores, etc.

I don't think Navy grants 3 year scholarships from the 4 year high school application. Army does that but I don't think Navy does. I've been known to be wrong before though. Just ask my wife.

DS did not get his negative decision from USNA until early April and a positive NROTC response in mid April timeframe.
Agree with Kinnem, you should focus on Plan B (backup plan) Patience is a virtue.

@kinnem is correct. "the" scholarship you are applying for as a high school senior is the 4 year national scholarship. While the Army does both 3 and 4 year scholarships out of high school, the Navy does not. The 2 and 3 year scholarships only come into play for applicants already in college. Check out the 2 and 3 year scholarship requirements here: http://www.nrotc.navy.mil/scholarships.html

I got notified I received my scholarship last year right around April 3, so it could be a wait... worth it though! Best of luck
