Is anyone concerned about the much-extended length of NSI this year?If they're doing classwork during ROM that normally fits into the 17-day session, 4 weeks seems totally unnecessary. Also, for kids who are vaccinated, why should they need to ROM, especially now that big Navy is moving to a policy of no ROM if you're fully vaccinated?

I can't say for certain policy of big Navy but my DS1 has been fully vaccinated for months and is still required to ROM...he is even missing his brothers commissioning and commencement by 2 days because of ROM timing requirements before deployment.

I would also add that Cortamid will be 4 weeks the following year, as far as schedules go, you are now at the mercy of the Navy...all I can say is get used to it....because your summers will now be in flux, and even after commissioning their schedules change so much...lot of hurry up and wait.

Big Navy no longer requires ROM for any fully vaccinated personnel (14 days following final dose). I would guess they can't take this into account for NSI because vaccines are still voluntary and it would be hard to offer 2 tracks for those that are and aren't.

Also, NSI is a lot more than just classwork. There are many important evolutions that midshipmen candidates go through including weapons training, drill, swimming, damage control, and more. The extension represents the needed time to ensure all candidates are qualified in these respective areas.
