NROTC officer interview

We were warned at one of the schools to not pursue a scholarship through a recruiting office, but they do exist, in our case it was Army, and the contact at the school we were at said that Narional Guard does have college scholarships to give, they are easier to get and if you sign their paperwork, you cannot go active duty later, no matter what you do, and there is nothing that can be done by anyone, so he was very careful to tell her not to sign anything if promised outside of the school itself or through cadet command. With regard to Navy, a friend of mine said her son was recently contacted by a Navy recruiter wanting him to apply for an ROTC scholarship and made big promises I had not heard before, and they did go down to a recruiting office to talk to him about it, not through a university, I would echo what was said above, deal with the recruiting operations officer directly at a University, any university can help you, even if it isn't the one you want to attend.

Thanks guys, I've gotten in contact with Auburn's NROTC unit. They said they can help me with the interview. I feel like my recruiter never intended to help me get the scholarship in the first place. If it's too late to get the scholarship for this year, is there anyway I can take a gap year and apply for the same scholarship or similar scholarship in April for the next academic year? 2017-2018

@ethaaan123 Just do the interview ASAP. There are still many boards to come so you have time. In the event that you do not pick up a scholarship, you can either re-apply as a college freshman or join your university's NROTC unit and try to pick up a side-load scholarship (3 year). If paying for college is not an option, then you can take a gap year as well and reapply this year.

Alright, thanks. I just got this feeling everything is working against me, because even the NROTC coordinator in Nashville hasn't even respond ed to my emails.

Always remember that if you need something to get done/resolved quickly, the best course of action is to use the phone. Keep us updated and best of luck!

I meant to say we also tried calling him. lol I know a phone call is more urgent than an email or text. My guidance counselor and I both called the coordinator again. He picked up this time and he said he will begin scheduling an interview. I'm kind of confused about what is going on. My recruiter just said this morning he has checked this month's 'tracker' and it says my application was completed but it wasn't selected. He said maybe I wasn't competitive enough and I should try again in April. I find this weird because the netfocus site and the coordinator said I'm just missing three components: debarmment and drug statement, SOU's, and officer interview. That means it's not complete, so how could it be considered to even have been not selected?

Hopefully the people on here with NROTC experience can continue to help, I just know my daughter has never talked to a recruitment office or recruiter. She has only dealt with ROO's at individual universities and Cadet Command (Army), so hoping you are able to get what you need from Auburn's NROTC staff. Please keep us posted!

Enlisted recruiters generally no nothing of the NROTC process. I suggest you just ignore him or her and handle future interaction through Auburn.

I will try and get this all straightened out. If I can't then I'll just try again in April. Thanks for all the help everyone. If I learn anything more I'll definitely post it here. Maybe the information and my situation can help someone else in the future.

@ethaaan123 can you post word-for-word what the netfocus site says? Maybe this will give us a clue as to what is going on. Also-like kinnem said, keep in contact with the Auburn NROTC unit.

It seems to me that your recruiter is giving you bad information. If your portal is showing that you need a officer interview in is not complete and it has not yet been reviewed. Work with your coordinator. They are the ones that have NROTC scholarships as their priority. Who knows what your recruiters priorities are.

The netfocus site said exactly what the coordinator said: I'm missing SOU's, debarment and drug statements, and officer interview. He called my recruiter and told him I would be getting an interview. So now I just need to go up to the recruitment station and get them to resend those papers. (if they ever sent them in the first place)

Make sure you take that paperwork with you to the interview. Print out your application, take the 3 signed forms, take a copy of the fitness test paperwork, take a copy of your resume and a copy of your transcripts, print out your sat/act scores. TAKE EVERYTHING. Do not assume that they have anything. The last thing you want is that the interviewer asks for something that is missing, even though the portal says they have it, and you do not have it. You are pushing the deadline. Double check that you have everything.

This feels like home. TALKING/YELLING AT/TO MY SON :)

actually now it says I only need the interview! I'm glad they got their heads out their asses and figured everything out. coulda came a couple months earlier though. haha

Make sure you still bring all that stuff to the interview. Just in case. Take the belt and suspender approach. Don't leave anything to chance.

@5Day Thanks, but I actually do have all that in a nice navy folder I found at the station. I think it's pretty convenient and looks somewhat professional. haha
