DD received a phone call tonight from a Marine officer. He spoke about the Navy ROTC program and encouraged her to apply.

Is this normal? She applied to USNA. I know there was a thread earlier about the marines and the rotc contacting applicants. He did not say she was denied or anything. But he encouraged her to apply for rotc. I have never read on here about an applicant getting called in the phone.

I can't speak to whether or not it is normal.... but if you haven't already, take a long, good look at NROTC. I applied to the Academy, and didn't make the cut. Granted, it stung, but it turned out to be the best rejection I ever received.

I've received several unsolicited texts and calls from our local Navy recruiting office encouraging me to apply for NROTC or enlist through the nuclear program. I think they either get your contact info from USNA or from College Board.

If there is a real drive to becoming a Navy or Marine officer, and not lose momentum in case of a turndown, many apply to NROTC as a viable path. If they find themselves re-applying, they can also take advantage of an additional nom source from ROTC. If they decide not to re-apply or find they love their college and unit, they will get their commission at the same time and be well prepared. The ROTC national and local scholarships are very generous, and many schools throw in room and board. NROTC experiences, knowledge and growth can add nice heft to re-applicant essays.

DS rec’d an email re: applying to NROTC-MO last week - something about getting his name from list of USNA applications. He’s already applied to NROTC so couldn’t apply to NROTC-MO - otherwise I think he might have considered it. He’s also had some other contacts from recruiters - including one who reaches out to him via Insta. Somehow his name ended up on some list.

God! is a backup plan for most USNA applicants. It's also a great first choice I certainly for many.

I don't know if it's necessarily normal, but I received several calls and emails from AFROTC, NROTC, and NROTC marine option recruiters. Like Boymomof3's DS, a few recruiters have also followed me on Instagram.

As stated in other posts, USNA provides the list of applicants in the NROTC coordinator's area who may also be interested in applying for NROTC. We try to make contact with these applicants to ensure they at a minimum understand that the NROTC scholarship is an option as well. If you are applying for an Academy, but not an ROTC scholarship program, I really cannot fathom the reasoning. The scholarship results in the same outcome as graduating from an SA, along with full tuition and a monthly stipend. It is not an "inferior" program, just alternative, and applying and being offered a scholarship does not preclude one from attending the SA if they get selected, or vice versa. Visit netc.navy.mil/nrotc for more information.

💯- for some students, it may actually be a better fit. First time going through all of this, but DS even said it would be really hard to pass on an opportunity that was his top choice for school w/ an NROTC Scholarship. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻.....
