My DS is in a college NROTC program and will be applying to the Naval Academy for the 3rd time for the Class of 2025. He is also reapplying to West Point, his brother is a 2017 USMA Grad. My question is; can my DS receive nominations from his NROTC unit to both USNA and USMA? I know USMA will accept a nom from NROTC but I’m not sure if the NROTC can give 2 noms to a student in their unit?

I checked back to see if you had gotten a reply to this.

Perhaps the reason is most posters don’t like to guess on what the answer is to what seems to be in a straightforward yes or no category, and there is an easy route to the solution. Your son is in a unit and knows the chain of command is his best route to an official answer on a matter of current NROTC policy. He can do some research on NROTC instructions (written policies), and if unsuccessful, can then ask as the next logical step. It could be a quick email or phone call. If it’s a new one to his COC, they won’t guess - they will call a peer at another unit or their own chain of command.

We used to have an NROTC poster here, but he or she has moved on from that position. Perhaps someone else from an NROTC unit staff may comment. As always, if the information is not coming from a primary source, and if it’s anecdotal in nature (“I applied two years ago and got both”), it may not be accurate, as Navy instructions do change, and after all, this is an anonymous Internet forum where advice is worth exactly what you pay for it.

The good news is, it’s still early in the cycle, your son no doubt has his dual application action plans set up, and he can be assured of a current and correct answer to his question from his chain of command in plenty of time to plan accordingly. Presumably he is again applying for Senators, Representative, VP, and any service-connected noms.

I admire his tenacity and grit as he starts this process again. Best wishes for his success.

Are you certain USMA will accept a nom from NROTC? Or do you mean NJROTC? JROTC Honor Units (regardless of service affiliation) can nominate to any of the Academies.

I attached the USMA ROTC Nomination Form. Recommendations can come from Junior and Senior Army ROTC, or from any service Honor Unit w/Distinction (refers to JROTC programs).

I knew there was something nibbling at the back of my mind, because I recall looking it up on a previous occasion. For those unfamiliar, it would be easy to read it as including college ROTC, any flavor. Simple answer above derived from a primary source.

Good work by @Go Dores!

Since OP's DS is already in college I don't believe he can get a nom to USMA thru JROTC. I'd fall back on Capt MJs advice and check with his CoC.

Yes USMA Regional Commander informed my DS that they will accept a nom from NROTC

Thank you Captain MJ my DS will ask his chain of command, I only asked on the forum to see if anyone had knowledge of this scenario. It was a tough turn down for him, he had extremely positive vibes from BGO and Field Force....🤔
