NROTC Question

Hi,
I am currently a senior applying for the NROTC scholarship but have a few questions. I understand that we are supposed to list 5 of the schools that you want the scholarship to in the application. Knowing that I have to apply to all five of the schools, my question is what happens if I get rejected to all five of the schools? What would then happen with the scholarship?

Also, another question regarding the application status is the Physical Test part. Is there a certain requirement that I have to meet when I am being tested for the scholarship?

My understanding is you have to be admitted to a school to activate the scholarship. Friendly advice, but as with any college search try to have a few safety, target and reach schools on your list. My DS had 3 target/safety schools on his list of 5. If you aren't sure where you stand with respect to admission, try a google search for scores/gpa requirements, or reach out to the CO's at the schools - all were really helpful with answering any and all questions for my son. Below is a link to the AFA information for the physical part of the application. I'm sure you've already checked out the NROTC website; if not, there's a lot of helpful information there. And good luck to you!

+1 to Holden100. If you are awarded a scholarship and are accepted to at least one college with NROTC you can generally transfer the scholarship there. Include some safety schools and also consider some schools you know you can afford without a scholarship which would enable you to participate as a college programmer and perhaps earn an NROTC scholarship later.

For peace of mind, it's nice to have a couple of college acceptances early in the cycle (either by applying Early Action or through rolling admissions), so that you're not wondering if you'll have nowhere to go.

100% agree with learningNavymom. Applying early with rolling admissions gives you more time to then work on additional scholarship applications. DS just finished another state school scholarship app this weekend and still has a few more to go- so many essays. . . .

I’ve never heard of anyone not getting into *any* of their schools. The majority get into at least two, if not 3-4. To put it bluntly, if you are a competitive NROTC candidate, you should be at least getting into one or two of your schools if you put down realistic schools in your top 5.

One of my oldest daughter's friends, a brilliant student with great stats, applied to only three schools. USAFA, and two Ivy's. Unfortunately, she was declined by all three.

A target or safety school is never a bad idea.

In fact, my DS commissioned from his safety school and ended up loving it there.
