NROTC recruiter seems disorganized

Is this typical of these folks? My son has the application done and has submitted everything but can't get commitment for interview. He emails and gets no reply, then calls and the guy says he will get back to regarding interview time. Anyone having such issues? Are these scholarships first come, first serve?

Is there a NROTC unit at a university nearby - or better yet, a school to which he has applied and is accepted but awaiting scholarship results? That unit will want to make sure the interview takes place. The interview does not have to be done by a recruiter (although I am not sure on Marine Option). It can't hurt to call and ask the unit to which he is hoping to connect and ask.
 
I have nothing good to say about DDs recruiter he has been a total pain in the rear from day one. Same experience with getting emails and phone calls returned. Almost made my DD give up. He only cares about enlistments period.
 
Contact an Officer Selection Officer. There may be one at the recruiting station you are working with.
Alternatively, you might try contacting the Recruiting District Office. You can find them here: https://www.navycs.com/districts.html
Of course you should pick the one closest to you. My son handled all his contacts through our local recruiting district headquarters when he was applying.

BTW scholarships are not first come first served... but it is getting late in the game so I would definitely reach out to the district or a higher authority with the person you're working with.
 
If you’re not getting anywhere with the recruiter contact the regional coordinator.

He is using the local recruiter to our area, as found at https://www.navycs.com/districts.html. It is getting frustrating, and even the portal information is not being updated. I have let me son handle everything but I am beginning to think I may intervene.....I don't know what else to do at this point.
 
My DS was lucky last year and his local recruiter was on top of things and helped him through the process. If you are not having any luck there, contact a recruiting officer specifically for officer programs. You can locate your officer recruiting officer here: http://www.nrotc.navy.mil/locate_coordinator.html .

Like @kinnem said, they are not first come, first served, but time is short. If you are going to intervene, it should only be to point your DS in the right direction. He has to want it enough to work for it.
 
Most recruiters are focused on enlistments. I went in asking about rotc and we ended the convo about enlistment. I don't think they have much knowledge about ROTC from my experience but the best option is to contact a ROO at a local school for info or any military science dept.
 
Yeah, I'm an AFROTC Cadet about to commission, and thankfully ALL AFROTC stuff is handled by cadre members, no recruiters.

Always very shady to me how the Navy uses recruiters for NROTC and not actual folks who work in ROTC. All they want are their enlistments.
