I understand that if a scholarship midshipman drops the NROTC program after their sophomore year they either have to pay back tuition or go on active military service in enlisted status upon graduation. I’m wondering: with the latter option, will the student get to choose the enlisted career they will pursue or will the Navy assign them an enlisted career? (For example: If a MIDN wants to pursue SEAL selection but instead gets a Surface Warfare Officer assignment in the fall of their senior year, can they then drop the program and sign a SEAL Challenge Contract as an enlisted service member without having to repay tuition?) Thank you and have a great day!
