Hello all,
I am currently a 3rd year student in the NROTC program and I will be submitting my service assignment package in about one year. Has anyone here had any experience with attempting to be assigned to a Restricted Line (RL) designator? It's no secret that most NROTC accessions are assigned into Unrestricted Line (URL) designators, however I have heard of some rare cases where midshipmen get assigned into RL designators. I'm prepared to select SWO (1160) and then push for a lat-transfer to once I've completed my first DIVO tour, but being a SWO isn't something I want to do for very long.
Of course, there is always the reason of being NPQ for URL service, but I have no reason to believe I will be found NPQ when I complete my pre-commissioning physical. I have a strong desire to be an Information Professional Officer (1820) and my major is in Information Technology with a focus on information assurance/security and mobile programming. And I am working on getting a couple IT industry certifications before I graduate in order to bolster my chances.
