NROTC Scholarship Awarded

Congratulations!! Can you share how you found out? Email, Phone call, NETFOCUS? Also general credentials? Tier GPA Leadership? Jus curious since you are the first!
My DD was awarded an NROTC ISR (Immediate Scholarship Reservation) and found out mid-September. Her credentials are a 4.18 GPA, Varsity sports, NHS, Girls State, Tier 1, 29 ACT, DD of a NROTC UW Madison, and active with the American Legion Aux.

I was made aware today that I have been selected for the 4-year NROTC Scholarship, so I wanted to ask if there was some kind of spreadsheet on here where I could list my status and such, similar to how it is done for an appointment to a service academy.
Congratulations to you!! Very awesome news! My DD was also awarded the scholarship! Best of luck!

With all notifications sent out for the first NROTC board, I just wanted to pass a couple stats.

44 selectees in total were notified of their scholarships. I believe every one of them was placed at their 1st choice, and there were several Ivies selected.

Of the 44 selectees, 5 were tier 3 majors, which is under the 15% limit.

For those not yet selected, there is plenty of time. And we anticipate around 1050 to 1100 spots this season, so folks just need to be patient and the system work it's way.

WIth the board completing last week, any new notifications go out today as of yet?

It takes a bit to put the results together, make sure the calculations are correct, the obligatory legal review, then scheduling for the Admiral's review. Then add in the pending holiday.......

Do applicants who didn’t make the cut for a certain board have a chance to be selected later if their score is higher than applicants from following boards?

For example an applicant scores something like an 88 and the cut off for that board was a 90. Then a following board cutoff is determined to be 86. Would applicants from previous boards who scored higher than a new board cutoff score of 86 be reconsidered?

Generally speaking, there isn't a comparison of one board to the next or to follow on boards. There are a few reasons, the main one being that noone knows what the following boards will reveal. People in the first board or two tend to be those seeking early decisions....but not always. And once in a while there will be a board with higher SAT or ACT scores or higher interview scores. So the people making the call as to where the cut line needs to be before considering alternates will wait for more mathematical certainty before telling a person they were selected. In the example you gave, let's say the person with the 88 score gets told at the 2nd board that they made the cut. Now what happens if the 3rd board scores well and raises that average above 88? So we need to let things settle out a bit before that call gets made.

Another driving factor is the tier level. Tier 3 is limited to 15%. So if a person has a score above the cut, but the board is mostly Tier 3's, then we have to be careful or we can't select ANY Tier 3s for the rest of the boards. That would be a mess!

So there are several balancing acts going on here. I don't envy the people who compile all of the data (all two of them). The scholarship season turns them into "one-armed" paper hangers.

Anyone on the 1st Marine board hear anything yet. I was under the assumption that results were to be released yesterday.

We knew Thanksgiving was coming but didn't factor it in ~ and it makes good sense. All the standard college applications are in and now our son is browsing the college sites to which he applied ~ Embry Riddle, Virginia Tech, Texas A&M, etc. I'm kind of hoping he joins the Corps Of Cadets at Virginia Tech (NROTC) as we have three friends who attended there (non military but worked with me at defense contractors in Northern Va.) including the best man in our wedding. Our son's app status is: Your application is at CNRC for additional processing. ..which is better than "nope," "I don't think so," or "have you considered joining the other side?" LOL Happy Thanksgiving and Gooooo Navy!

Once your DS is "Boarded" his status on the NROTC Portal will change to "No decision has been made on your application", or obviously "Congratulations You Have Been Selected for a National NROTC Scholarship". "No decision has been made on your application" is NOT a denial and is most likely an Alternate. My DS was Awarded his Scholarship as an Alternate. He was "Boarded" the first week of Jan 3-8 2022 and Awarded April 6th, 2022. "Additional Processing" is just what it means, and is most likely one of 2 reasons. 1) Waiting on Teacher/Counselor Recs to come in via the portal or 2) Waiting on Interview grades to come in from the University Detachment that conducted the Interview. Just because your DS submitted his "Complete" package does not mean the package is "Board Ready". Good Luck.

Congratulations to your on his award this past year! Our son's package was fully submitted but after the October board. He was going to interview with the CO of the Rutgers University NROTC but before he could set it up he was contacted by the Philadelphia NTAG CO and interviewed with him. It went very well and he's very excited in anticipation of how the next several years will play out. Thank you for your insights! Gooooo Navy!

I am curious if your son was being considered for an ISR? I say that because if an interview had been set for the Rutgers PNS, an NTAG Co would not normally do the interview. But if it was for an ISR, then the interview has to be done by the NTAG Co. Either way it seems like things are moving along.

Yes sir. We were informed ISRs (Immediate Scholarship Reservations) are few and far between; only 5 per NTAG (Navy Talent Acquisition Group) - where the candidate's application is confirmed as completed and as long as the interview is solid it's approved and doesn't need to be approved by the board. When he interviewed with the CO, he was informed straightaway he was the first on their interview list and was being offered an ISR.

The first interview question: Are you also applying to the United States Naval Academy? Answer: Yes sir. Second question: If you also earned an appointment to USNA, which would you choose? Answer: USNA.

Although the CO was happy to complete the interview over the next full hour, it shifted to the standard ROTC interview and no longer for the ISR. We respect an ISR is an amazing opportunity and NTAGs should offer them to candidates who fully intend to accept. This having been written it kind of feels like our son is in a no-man's land and all we can do is trust in God things will workout one way or the other. Gooooo Navy!!

On the NROTC portal it has said "additional processing" for at least a week even though all documents have been submitted for November board. Our son has contacted his recruiter multiple times but hasn't heard back. Any thoughts? We realize it's a holiday week but he's been trying to get confirmation for at least a week now and recruiter is not responding. Thank you.

"Additional processing" is a sort of catch all which can mean a lot. Sometimes it just means a lot of applications were received at once and they are being placed into a board review folder. Sometimes it means the record may go into the next board. And once in a while it can mean one of the teachers looks like they write the evaluation with their toes and nobody can read it. So they are waiting fpr the teacher to resubmit. But the recruiter will likely answer after the turkey break.

Does anyone know if results have been completed for the Nov board? Oct results came out so fast….

Our son's recruiter just told him that the second board isn't until December 12th. Is that accurate? Sounds a bit strange to me since we thought it was a November board.
