NROTC scholarship notification

Texted my DS to check his portal and he just texted me back that the status hasn't changed...drats! Although NROTC Scholarship is his plan B I hope DS gets positive news soon.

Congratulations to all those who have received good news!

same here.....sure would love the plan b finalized...sigh

Congratulations to everyone. Patience to those still waiting. Our plan B, which we had to exercise and should probably be called plan A2, didn't come together until we got scholarship information from DS's first choice college in April. An in-school NROTC MO scholarship didn't arrive until 18 months later. It all works out. :thumb:

Thanks for the heads up!! After looking at your post we checked and our DS got his first choice to University of South Carolina!! He has had his app in since August and has been anxiously waiting to hear! Great Celebration tonight!

Let's go Gamecocks! See him there! We just have to be sure we aren't too much trouble for kinnem's DS :shake: Oh and willysmom, I sent you a PM!

So my sons portal has said they are reviewing his NROTC application for a few weeks now. Anyone have the same issue? Any guesses on the holdup?

Yip Painful Wait

My DS application has been in and complete since June. DS is also an Academy candidate, same thing application has been in and complete since June. CFA & Med qualified and got a Senators nomination on Nov. 4th. He is also 3 for 3 in his top three NROTC schools for engineering.

They will all know soon enough. At least the "C" plan is set and in place so there is some breathing room.

So does it make a difference if you are a USNA hopeful? He is waiting on an appointment from too. Does that make a difference?

Waiting

I have no idea if applying for both makes any difference at all, someone with experience can answer that. In regard to the academy yes he only awaits an appointment. He has emailed his RD and the major part of their acceptance will come in Feb. & march.

One of the reasons I chimed in was because of what I have learned from a couple if experienced posters. This process takes time, build memories with your child and in a year this will be a distant memory. It's hard being the parent and waiting & hoping that your child's dreams come true. What becomes harder is knowing that in just a few short months they will all be off on a new journey no matter where they end up going. I am lucky enough to still have my daughter, bride of 24 years and my dog!!

All the very best to your child...

Cheers!! :thumb:

Makes no difference to either that your DS applied to the other - either positive or negative.

It's possible your DS may not know one way or the other until early April. Be working on solid backup plans. We did not hear a negative reply from NROTC until mid-April, but because we had backup plans in place we were able to execute with plenty of time. DS joined NROTC as a college programmer and won a scholarship during his sophomore year. In retrospect I think he ended up on exactly the path he was supposed to be on.

Thanks for the input and encouragement! Its so different than when i went through with my daughter going to "regular" college.

NROTC Awardee

DS just had his NROTC site updated...

Awardee to the University of South Carolina – Tier 1, Electrical Engineering.

He was accepted to the College of Engineering back on December 14th. Still hoping for the Academy, still in the mix.

One very happy young man and two very proud parents.

All the very best to all.
