NROTC Scholarship Reassignment Request

P-Flying 17: Thanks for the post concerning my DS's situation (awarded NROTC scholarship but can't transfer to it to VT and waiting on wait list offer for admissions to VMI)

You mention a possibility of applications to unit's with availability -- (I'm sorry my ignorance is going to show)...

1) Even at this late of date, the college admission's office will accept an application?
2) How can we access a list of available units?

Sadly, placement is so busy that we don't receive much help from them right now.

DS math/verbal SAT is solid -- and DS is AP/honor student so GPA is competitive as well. DS is well-rounded candidate.

Any help on locating information about unit's with availability is greatly appreciated. Should the DS call all the units?

Sent you a pm. But don't fret if you want to utilize your scholarship you will be able to.

The school transfer request to VT is closed. So, you better hope your son gets taken off the waiting list at VMI.

Galaxy, sadly the pm was empty. It must have been a misfire. I believe she is suggesting that one can use their scholarship but you may have to be open to considering a school that was not in your original top 5 picks. Pensacola will soon email a list of open units and then you can decide if you want to try to get admitted to one of those schools.

This is my best guess as to P-Flying 17's advice.

Good luck with your situation and I have never heard of deferring the scholarship. Use it or lose it.

I just received notification that I was awarded an NROTC Scholarship to my second choice school (UT) when I already committed to my first choice (A&M). Obviously I'm honored to receive the scholarship in the first place, but I really have my heart set on A&M and would like to transfer it by any means possible. Does anybody know how hard it is traditionally to transfer into A&M and if Pensacola is still accepting unit transfers? Thanks

Information we received from Pensacola (dated 20 April) noted the wait list for Texas A & M (Navy option) as closed. Sorry, we feel your pain.

We also received a list of open units, dated 26 April, also affirmed that A & M's transfer wait list is closed. Sorry, again.

And no, according to the information from Pensacola, they will not accept any more requests to transfer to A & M but they will work with you to insure your scholarship is viable somewhere.

Tough decisions -- choosing your dream school or choosing your dream scholarship. Best of luck.

Hookie is right. Wish everyone could go to a&m, they give instate tuition to all ROTC but unfortunately can't. The senior military collegs are the most popular schools and fill up quickly.

DS got the call from VMI today -- he'll be a Rat in the fall! Prayers answered!

YAY! Congratulations. I know it wasn't his first choice but I'm sure he'll thrive there and love it. :thumb:
