NROTC Scholarship

Thank you, that makes sense with some points i had not considered about the politics issue. The commute from Davis is what has held me back from listing it as my first choice.

How difficult would it be to transfer your scholarship from Davis to Cal after a couple years in Davis? Similarly, how difficult would it be to transfer a scholarship awarded to UCLA to Davis are another school offering IS tuition in the event I was not admitted to UCLA? I have a 30 ACT and 4.2 UC GPA w/ upward trend so I believe i am right on the cusp of admission. (Im hispanic as well if it carries any merit for UCLA)

As much as I would like to attend my current 1st choice U of Colorado, I would rather have a decent chance of getting a scholarship to work with than a slim chance of getting an OOS scholarship.

Second, a scholarship is not worth all that much to in-state students at public schools, who may prefer to pay their own way and maintain greater flexibility to join or leave the program without a commitment..

A quick calculation shows that DS will receive roughly $70,000 from NROTC over his four years as an IS student at his "elite public school". Since so many of the students are of the same caliber, there isn't as much scholarship money for students at these schools as people think. $70,000+ is nothing to sneeze at!

by law it mustn't matter, but in practice it matters a lot. Your last name and a few other areas of the application are all that the adcom needs to establish your hispanicness, even though the adcom is not explicitly allowed to have this information about you. I'm assuming you aren't rich. Public employees (the adcoms at all the UCs) really don't favor rich kids of any ethnicity, and bend over backward to help financially or socially challenged kids.

Good luck. As I recall you won't hear from Berkeley or UCLA until the third week of March.

If that is the case in admissions decisions then that's unfortunate as I'm better off financially than many others applying. However, don't get me wrong I am very grateful for my financial situation.

Honestly, at this date, you should know the NROTC system is tied to the school.

Nobody can chance you if we don't know the school.

If you want an answer, here is mine.
You have no chance for a Notre Dame, Harvard, etc applicant. Your ACT is too low.

I am not trying to be something that rhymes with witch.

I am trying to say for NROTC when you ask chancing, the college choices matter.

If you give limited information, we can only give limited answers.
