NROTC SELECTION BOARD TRENDS FOR THE OCTOBER, NOVEMBER, AND DECEMBER BOARDS

I don't think there are minumums for the PFA for the scholarship. The applicant just gets what they get and it is scored off of that. I think that is why it is a "assessment" rather then a "test".

Good afternoon, I’m having trouble opening the attachment. Can any one post what the average SAT is and GPA thank, and good luck to all!!

I noticed there is no PFA score data in the attachment. Does this mean as long as you meet the minumum PFA requirement, it will not be a factor anymore?
I would say that we haven't really seen a correlation between PFA scores and successful completion of 4 years of college with degree. But there have been times when I have seen two nearly identical records and the fitness score wound up being the tie breaker. And remember this is for Navy only. For Marine Options, the fitness score is a VERY big deal.

If you are using a smart phone you should make sure you have the Adobe Pro DC Reader downloaded. Then it should be fine.

I would be curious to know if the lower SAT scores are also similar with USNA applicants . I don’t believe any stats have ever been released for the USNA Class of 2026.

Just a few updates on where things stand now that we have 1 board left for February and two boards for March, with 1 more for April and then the season closes.

To date, there have been 547 offers for the 4-year National scholarship, 20 offers for MSISR, and 8 Nurse Corps options. So 575 total offers. The total for offers should settle out at about 1150, give or take. Quick math shows we are not quite at the halfway mark for offers with a few boards left. This isn't that unusual because many people wait till the deadline for submission, while others were focused on service academies and then shifted to NROTC toward January.

For those who love to see breakdowns, here is where things stand for tier allocations.

Tier 1: 272
Tier 2: 227
Tier 3: 76 (about 13%)

One unrelated update here in terms of reaching the cap limits for universities. Both Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and San Diego State University ( including cross towns) are at capacity. You can request to be added to their waiting list in case someone opts out or declines the scholarship, but you will most likely be shifted to your #2 school on your list. What that means is you need to get the application in for #2 before the college deadlines or things get really tricky.

One other side note in terms of alternates on the list. As you can see in the tier statistics above, we are close to the 15% limit for tier 3 majors. As the process begins for selecting alternates, that tier selection becomes a big deal. You may be in the top few people on the alternate list, but if you are a tier 3 and we have hit our tier 3 limit, then we have to move on down the list for a tier 1 or 2. Just something to think about. (and since someone asked me privately I'll just mention here.......nope, you cannot go back and change your tier. It is what it is.)

@GWU PNS My DS was one of those who shifted to the ROTC application in January after several months of working on his USNA application. He has applied for a Tier 3 major (Chinese). The 13% listed above is based on the current total (575), so there should be close to 100 slots left for Tier 3 majors (15% of 1150) - is this correct?

By straight math that is fairly accurate. But the unknown is how many people of the 575 who will shift to USNA or another service branch and are tier 1 or 2. Because each of those can affect who gets selected from the alternate list. But your general odea is correct.

so am I reading that correctly? Only 8 nurses? My daughter is SET on serving as a nurse and her scores are no where near those :( I need a plan B and C and D and E and F

Typically there are about 19 or 20 nurse selections. Hands down, our Nurse Corps is our most competitive program. Something your DD may want to look into is the Nurse Candidate Program which is managed by BUMED. There is a member here named Jim and he can likely point you in the right direction. I have forgotten his screen name right now but will look for it later.

@Jimdlt19 is out of the country at this time, but he does have lots of info on the process his son went through last year. His son (my nephew) ended up not accepting the military scholarship, and enrolled at FAU direct admit nursing and is using the Florida Bright Futures scholarship.

I was part of the Marquette Army ROTC unit in the 90s, and we had around 25 or so nurses out of 100 cadets. Much easier to get an AROTC scholarship for nursing.

Take a look at Army for an ROTC Nursing opportunity. My son was in your daughter’s shoes last year. He was an alternate for a NROTC Nurse slot but ultimately did not get one. From what we gleaned off this forum and some other sleuthing, we think he might have been the last or second-to-last person on the list. It is extremely competitive. It was a gut punch to him at first. He thought about a couple alternate Navy programs to commission as a Nurse, but also looked into Army opportunities. When we visited Marquette during one of their big student events, he talked to the AROTC rep and hit it off. He filled out the paperwork and kept the relationship going as a plan B. Couple weeks after we got home, AROTC offers him a shot at a 3-year scholarship. Got it about a week later. Fast forward now into February of his freshman year, and he absolutely loves Marquette and the nursing program and the fantastic Golden Eagle Battalion. If you have any desire to spend a few winters in Milwaukee, I can’t recommend Marquette enough. The AROTC program is top notch. There are 6-8 nursing students in it right now and they all work together very well.

I also believe the military is making some pretty big changes to the health services. Going to a joint model in the near future. I’m probably butchering the reality of it, but I think the distinctions between the branches in nursing and other medical fields will be lessened in the coming years.
