I received an NROTC scholarship this week and in the email it stated that they would be sending a formal selection letter. Is this just a paper stating you got selected or is it like a certificate type of thing similar to AROTC and the academies? If anyone who received the NROTC scholarship last year could let me know what the "formal selection letter" was as I'm curious as to what it really is could tell me please. Thanks!

I think, from previous years, that it's a letter explaining what school(s) you were awarded a scholarship for and other info about how to accept the scholarship, deadlines, next steps, etc. There may be a certificate included but I don't recall anyone mentioning it in the past.

There is a letter that usually comes about 2+ weeks after the online notification. It’s a congratulatory letter with information about the NROTC program and its requirements. It also has information on how to activate the scholarship and about the DoDMERB process. I did not get a certificate or anything, just the “congrats” and ”here’s what you need to do.”
Once you get DoDMERB squared away they’ll send you the equivalent of USNA’s Permit to Report — basically a letter saying you can travel to your unit and the airlines/hotels use it to give you military/gov’t rates. Hope this helps, like always reply back if you want more/clarifying info!

Thank you! DODMERB is already done and qualified because I did it with the academies and I have sent my acceptance of the scholarship already to them.

Good. They’ll need to clear you for NROTC (and any other ROTC if you were accepted) which may take a small amount of time. Congrats again.

Just curious, has anyone who received an NROTC selection gotten their acceptance letter in the mail? Email said 2 weeks but it's been past 2 weeks. My guess due to covid delays but I'm wondering if anyone has by chance gotten theirs.

When I got my letter last year it took closer to a month for it to arrive in the mail. It’s nothing very important just program information. Everything you need to do is online......

My DS (NROTC-MO) never received a letter in the mail. He was given a packet by his coordinator and accepted the scholarship through the portal. After he signed the forms and sent them in, he received some additional forms in the mail. I think things are delayed this year with COVID.
