Perhaps old news to some but a quick FYI that some 1/c NROTC Midshipmen were notified of their service assignments this week, on the Navy's 246th bday. It was not an across the board celebration and the announcement was a surprise to some, with a lower than typical percentage getting their first choice assignments at some of the schools (I only have data points for some of the schools from mids and their families) - tears of joy, next to tears of sadness, people literally leaving the building up in New England for example, to attempt to regain their composure. It's a tough pill I suppose if you're expecting X or Y or Z and you get option Q.

FYI, those going Surface Warfare will have further data via ship selection in the spring of 2022 that's livestreamed and IMO a lot of fun to watch.. Even saw some of this board's DS/ DDs last year from U Michigan, RPI, et al. make their choices so we could give a little congrats in the comments or just think a nice thoughts to wish them well.

DS unit received selections yesterday (winter grads). CO said there was a Nuke draft that impacted the selection. 17 of 30 got first choice. I have no clue if that is typical. DS got 2nd choice, Aviation (Pilot). He wanted Spec Warfare but knew it was an extremely long shot so he was happy-especially not to get Nuke drafted. 4 years of engineering class was enough. It was hard to see some disappointed-as a parent, you feel for all of them.

Yes, Sir. He was one of the people I thought of when I made this post. I watched the livestream last year and cheered at the computer screen as he and others made their selections. Anonymous board and all but it wasn’t hard to figure out a few of our respective young men and women from the forum, even without a bacon beacon or the secret handshake (oh crap I forgot the first rule of the SA secret handshake)😀. Congrats and hope he enjoying his service time so far.

On the flip side, some units reporting 100% of MIDN got their first choice. Unfortunately just the way it is with some getting their 2nd/ anything but first

Yes-I think DS unit had an immense spec war club with that first choice-those mids got 2nd choice, bringing down the first choice percentage. But mids know that spec war is a long shot, so 2nd choice is pretty OK. If no one in unit puts spec war first, the percentage getting first choice will likely be higher.
