Hello,
I am very new to this forum, so please forgive me if I am asking questions that are obvious to most. My daughter has applied for a NROTC scholarship and completed the application in mid January. It was much later than we had planned, but our recruiter was somewhat new to her position, and although very friendly and professional, we really struggled with getting information and guidance and just getting the whole process moving.
Anyway, when she looks up her status on the NROTC portal it has had this message for almost a month now:

"Application has been submitted online Your electronic application has been received and is being processed ... Your application is at Naval Education and Training Command for final processing and selection determination. Selection decisions will begin in late August and continue until the end of April. Once a selection decision has been made, your new status will be reflected."

We are trying to educate ourselves on this process and we have read on this forum that most people have a more detailed status. (Such as if they have been looked at by the board, etc.) Is this the status everyone started out with initially? Thanks so much for any insight you could provide!

For NROTC they never tell you if you've been looked at by a board or not. Other rotc programs do that but for Navy It will probably stay with that exact wording until they decide on whether or not to give the scholarship. I recieved my scholarship on the first or second board but one of my friends is still waiting to hear about her status. Goes to show that you could hear back at any time. At this point it's just a waiting game but I wish your daughter the best of luck!!

Everyone had that status at some point. I don't think DS's status ever changed from that. We didn't get a negative reply until mid-April. Patience. I think you're in a normal place.

Thanks for your replies unsahopeful19 and kinnem! I wish I would have found out about this forum sooner.... LOTS of great info here!

Welcome, xcfan82! I'm a rather new member too and found this amazing site offers a wealth of sage advice from experienced people. I was in your shoes last year, prowling this site to figure out "what comes next". My daughter was selected for a scholarship last year and my son applied this year but was not selected. So I have both scenarios to share. The following info in probably elsewhere on this site, but here is a refresher. Both my kids applied for the Navy Option. I suppose a Marine Option might look just slightly different, but the info below is based on my experience.

After your app is submitted, your portal will show as it does now, "..application has been received and is being processed."

Once processed, it will show the following (this took at least a couple of weeks to change. Probably depends how many apps have been submitted at the time):

The NSTC Selection/Placement Office has received your application.

Missing Items
All required items have been processed.

Selection Status
No decision has been made on your application

Then there is information from your app (address, phone numbers, etc. Just confirm everything is accurate)

Highest Math SAT or ACT equivalent: XXX, Highest Verb SAT or ACT equivalent: XXX

Your Scholarship Application reflects the following College Choices:
1st College Choice: XXXX
2nd College Choice: XXXX
3rd College Choice: XXXX
4th College Choice: XXXX
5th College Choice: XXXX

And then information on who to contact if you'd like to request a change in school choices.

The portal will remain this way until a decision is made. This is the hardest part! Be patient, it stays this way for months. My daughter received her decision in early April. My son received his in mid February. Both submitted in October.

Once a decision is made, your portal will change to one of the following:

Selection Status
We are sorry, you were not selected for a scholarship. You will receive a letter explaining other options available to you.

OR (hopefully!)

Selection Status
Congratulations!
You have been selected for a 4-yr Navy Option scholarship.

Your scholarship has been place at XXXXXX. Your host unit will be XXXXXXX.

Selection Documents (Download the following selection documents)
Selection Booklet
Acceptance Questionaire
School Change Request Form
Waitlist Request Form

You are physically qualified. (This was updated after she was DodMerb qualified)

You will be notified in writing of your selection status approximately two weeks after the information is posted on this web site. The letter includes a questionnaire which must be returned immediately. The award of the scholarship is contingent upon meeting all the requirements listed in the notification letter, including being found medically qualified or waived for the NROTC Program.

We have received the information that you accepted the scholarship. (This was updated after she accepted the scholarship).

Good luck to your daughter!

Is anyone in here still waiting on their notification? Our son submitted his Navy option ROTC scholarship application back in Nov. and once it was all processed, the "no decision..." status has remained the same since. We are down to the enrollment wire, and moving ahead with plan B, but I am so curious, is there anyone else still waiting?? We are in Missouri, if that matters...

We called, and were told the last board had just adjourned (that was last Wednesday), and notifications would be out mid to late this week. Many rejections letters have gone out already, so we are happy to still be "on the island!" (Yes, I heard that reference somewhere on this Forum!) Good luck to you vtechroomie1 !

You are about to the end of the line but that doesn't mean it is all over yet. Anecdotally, we have seen awards given out up to (and after) the national college deadline of May 1. I imagine this is crunch time as the Navy tries to figure out who will take the scholarships, who will give them up, who will transfer to alternate schools, etc. Based on some information I posted in the last week or two, its possible that this jockeying could go into the summer.

For those still waiting for transfers or waiting on a decision I suppose I would say that "no news is good news at this point." You may want to put in deposits at Plan B schools while you wait this out.

Good look.

DS is still waiting too... Applied for only the NROTC scholarship, been accepted to 4/5 of his schools. Waiting is so frustrating, isn't it?

Congrats to all the scholarship winners!!! vtechroomie - are you going Army or Navy?

Congrats to all the scholarship winners!!! vtechroomie - are you going Army or Navy?

I believe I'll be headed Army! (much to the dismay of my navy-brat mother, who was born and raised all things navy) I believe a big deciding factor in my decision was the Corps of Cadets at Virginia Tech. I think I'll be able to develop my leadership skills more when I'm living in a structured military lifestyle for four years. Also my dream is to become an Army Ranger. Tough to pick one of the two, but I feel very blessed to have to make that decision!
