Hey everyone! I’ve been following my status after submitting my application at the end of January. Since submitting it, the status has been something along the lines of “your application is being processed”.

Today, my status changed to “no decision has been made on your application.” Does that mean I’ve been boarded and was not given an application during this past weeks boards? I’m pretty worried because I took a gap year from a T5/ HYP school so without the scholarship the financials will be tough to workout and I don’t have the option to change schools as I committed last year by taking the gap year.

Mine went from "your application is being processed" to "no decision has been made about your application." I submitted in December and was offered an Immediate Scholarship Reservation contract shortly after that. It is just a waiting game until decisions come out, which are released until April.

Don’t overlook joining ROTC and working to earn a campus based scholarship, should you not receive one now.

As far as I know HYP schools don’t offer campus based scholarships and financial aid, like the rest of the ivies, is need based. I was awarded a scholarship last year during the first board, so I was hoping I would get one again this year. I’m very worried I might have gotten passed on during last weeks board which would be a bit surprising since my application was very strong, at least imo. But you never know with these things.

Couple of data points:
1. The ivies do offer financial based aid as you mentioned, and even those in high income brackets and savings can receive some relief - it varies by school and your particulars.
- here for example is Princeton's financial aid calculator.
You should fill this in for your school of choice to get a sense of what your tuition/ cost to attend might be.

2. Some ivies also offer grants and other aid not purely on financial need. Alumni grants for example who may go to specific majors, from specific states, only to left-handers,etc.

A quick tip that I just learned when my DD was speaking with Harvard is that apparently if you are accepted at more than 1 ivy, and say want to attend Harvard but get a better deal from Princeton, you can take the best deal offered and the other school who will honor it. So for you not-yet applied folks, you may want to keep that in mind when choosing what schools to apply to. My DD chose 2 but had I known this sooner I would have spent the money on a few more apps.

OP and all - good luck.

Your status means just what it says, no decision has been made on your application one way or another. It does not necessarily mean your application has been reviewed yet, but it is ready to be reviewed. Your status will remain this way until a decision one way or another is made, even after it has been reviewed.

To clarify, NROTC does not have campus based scholarships at any level. All scholarships are a national competition. If you are not awarded a 4 year scholarship now, you can apply to join the NROTC unit as a college programmer, without any financial benefits. You could then re-apply for the 4 year scholarship as a college freshman (assuming you are applying as a Navy option) and also apply for a 3 year side load scholarship as a freshman, but these are national competitions. If you perform well in the unit and do well academically, you will have a better application package.

You may feel you have a "very strong" application and maybe you do, but there are lots of applicants each year with very strong applications who are not awarded scholarships. What separates the applicants from that point is what they do from there. If they are committed to serving, they work through the alternate plans and find a way to achieve that goal. Sometimes that means paying for a year or two of college tuition before earning a scholarship. Sometimes that means continuing to pay and achieving Advanced Standing and commissioning that way. Ohters move on to different plans. Good luck. You are still under consideration at this point.

You two need to check my other NROTC posts. Same thing happened to my DS' application before being awarded last week.

This means your board is complete and you are in consideration. Check your DODMERB site if you are also a SA applicant. Otherwise, wait for an email. Good luck and keep the faith.

Interesting... that’s what portal says for DS... I just don’t remember what it said before today 😂 & don’t want to ask him as he’s pretty “chill” about it all right now. He’s very happy about “Plan B” options so I’m trying not to “rock the boat” & not look 👀 crazy 😉.... So, we’ll wait 😬....

I am surprised by your answer above - as NROTC does offer 2 year scholarships to college students enrolled in NROTC. Did I miisread your comment? See this from the NROTC site:

"The NROTC Two-year Scholarship:

  • Covers final two years of college.
  • Provides tuition, fees, textbooks, and uniforms for two academic years.
  • Subsistence allowance for a maximum of 20 months.
  • Open to college students who have completed their sophomore year or third year in a five-year curriculum.
  • Deadline date: 15 March of the applicant's sophomore year.
  • On graduation commission as ensign, US Naval Reserve or second lieutenant, US Marine Corps Reserve.
  • Total military service obligation is eight years, at least four of which must be active duty." See:

Yes, you misread or misinterpreted what I said, or I was not sufficiently clear. NROTC does have two year and three years scholarships, known as side load scholarships, but they are not "campus based" scholarships. Whereas Army units have campus based scholarships that can be awarded at the campus level, all NROTC scholarships are awarded on a national level. The application for the side load scholarship is submitted and reviewed by a national board that is considering applications from across the country and makes the decision where the scholarships will be awarded.

Navy or Nurse Option Two and Three-Year Scholarship Application Process

You must apply via the Navy ROTC unit of the university you wish to attend.

You must conduct an Navy ROTC Applicant Fitness Assessment (AFA) and provide your scores to the Navy ROTC Unit from which they are seeking a nomination in order for their application to be considered complete and forwarded for consideration by the selection board.

See the following links for details of how to conduct the AFA:

To apply you must complete the application below, obtain the required documents and submit your application to the Professor of Naval Science and the university you wish to attend.

Contents of application:

Note the places where a "selection board" is referenced. This is the national board reviewing the applications forwarded to them by the units.

Hey there, I submitted my application mid December and I heard back beginning of February. It seems like they are doing it in order of submitted so if you submitted late January then you might hear back end of this month. "No decision has been made on your application" is what mine said before I heard back and got selected. Good luck.

My DS NROTC scholarship status recently changed from, "your application is being processed", to "your application is at CNRC for additional processing". Anyone else get that or know what that may mean/indicate?
