To the current MIDN, anyone hear about where they’re going this summer? I haven’t - my unit says standby to standby. My guess is that response is what’s going around

Just wondering if anyone has heard one way or another.

Also, feel free to share about where you want to go or what you want to do!

I'm scheduled to go to San Diego this summer- if you haven't heard about summer cruise yet you will very soon
just curious what side of the country your nrotc school is in? are you west coast ? we were wondering if that was a factor is cruise placement this summer. have fun!!!!!!

Typically the navy places you based on if you are east/west of the Mississippi. You can select location via your Unit’s location or your Home of Record.

Ex. School is in CA, select to depart from home unit, you’ll likely end up going to a west coast training. Ex2. School is in VA, HoR is AZ, decide to leave from home, you’ll likely end up going west coast.

N.B.: this changes if you go on a specialty cruise, etc.

Yeah, I'm not sure if this is the case. My son's unit is in NY, we live in PA, and he was assigned to CORTRAMID West, as were many other east coasters.

It happens, but in general it depends on which side of the Mississippi one lives on.

I could be wrong, but I think academic calendars are also playing a role in East/West placements. Our DS goes to school on the east coast but HOR is west coast (San Diego)…he’s been assigned East Coast CORTRAMID because his classes won’t conclude before the WC report date.

I have heard that the MO are doing a month at Lejeune - that makes more sense to me.
DS a MO is doing a month at Pendleton; School is TX A&M. he finishes year up early still has about ten day break between end of his first year/last final and start of Cotramid

Same thing for mine - headed to Pendleton.

I think it would be awesome if it wasn't limited to location. My DD will be going to school in NY and we live in VA. Her dad trained at Camp Pendleton. I think it would be so cool for her to be in the same place where he was (maybe only I think that would be cool).

It seems that normally the selection is done to save travel costs. If you will be home when scheduled to leave then it may be cheaper for the Navy to send you from there (remember there are like I think 16,000 people attending various NROTC summer training, a lot of travel costs). Likewise, if you will still be at school it is likely (unless cost equivalent) you will go to the closer available training. This may not be the case, but it sure seems like it.

... and I can see where getting to Pendelton might be cheaper than getting to Jacksonville, NC. In any case you can see all the functions of the entire Marine Corps at either base.

where is camp pendleton?
It's just north of Oceanside, CA. That's about half way (or less) from San Diego and Los Angeles. Folks will probably fly into San Diego, report to the USO lounge and be bused to Pendleton (if I were a guessing man). I suppose they might have them take the train from the airport to Oceanside or the base. Navy will arrange the travel details and issue orders on how to proceed.

I live in California and I requested a west coast aviation cruise. I got sent to Jacksonville...

edit: not complaining though, 'm glad to even be on cruise
