Hoping someone with some recent experience can answer this question. If a NROTC Scholarship recipient has not been accepted to their 1st choice/assigned school, and there is a chance that they may not gain admission to that school, is there any value in signing up for the waitlist at another NROTC unit? For anyone that has gone through the process in the last year or 2, did you have any issues transferring the scholarship from a public school to a private school, or from an in state school to an out of state school. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

The Navy removed the caps on how many scholarship mids a unit could have, so there should be no issues transferring the scholarship anymore and there should be no waitlists. Also, no real need to transfer the scholarship until he/she has hear back from 1st choice school about the admission decision. There also should be no issues transferring from public to private or in state to out of state.

Is that the same for AROTC?

Im not as familiar with AROTC, but my understanding is the AROTC scholarship is tied to a list of schools and the process for transferring it is more involved. I’m sure someone more familiar will come in with better info.
You can now pretty much take an NROTC scholarship to any NROTC college that has accepted you. Yes, you need to do a transfer from first choice if you're not accepted there, but with the lifting of the caps it's pretty much a formality at this point.

Kinnem, even if accepted to NROTC school where scholarship is, can it still be transferred if student changes their mind about #1?

Yes, that is my understanding. You could change your college preference under the old system so I don't see why it can't be done now.

DS easily transferred his NROTC scholarship to another school. Filled out a form, sent it in, and 3-5 days later it was a done deal. This was done spring ‘18.
