NROTC vs NROTC Marine option

I see people mentioning NROTC-Marine option. Is this a defined program different from NROTC? I was of the belief that one could just do NROTC then decide if they wanted Fleet or Marine? If this is different is there a seperate NROTC application for it? Also a link to it would be helpful.

I believe it is a selection on the nrotc scholarship application.
 
It's the same application but there is a spot where you have to specify MC option or NROTC. Oh and I believe there is a slight difference in the essay question and then of course the physical fitness test.
 
I went with the Marine Option and several of my friends went for the Navy Option. During the application process one major difference is, in fact, that with the Navy Option you will NOT take a PFT (That is, during the application process - When you actually get into the program I'm sure you will have to do your fair share of PT) With the Marine Option, you do take a PFT as part of your application. This consists of:

3-mile run (100 pts = <18 mins)
Pull-Ups (100pts = >20)
Sit-Ups (100pts = 100 sit ups)

This is for a maximum of 300 points.

If you're applying, put a lot of emphasis on pull ups. Notice for every pull up you do it's 5 points towards your 300. You can find more info on the PFT if you just google "Marine Corps PFT" or something to that effect.

The essay questions do differ slightly, but most are relatively the same.

I was curious, I saw that the Marine Option training looks like a lot of fun throughout the year.

I am hoping to switch my scholarship from Marine Option to Navy Option. I really hope to go Special Warfare (SEAL) once I graduate from University of Colorado if I can get it switched to Navy. Would the unit possibly let candidates for the Special Warfare program train and PT with the Marine unit just because their training will be more like USMC training in the future and a lot less similar to Surface Warfare, Pilot, etc. training? Just curious, thanks.
 
I think that you would be more than welcome to PT with the Marines at your unit. You may have only a day of required PT with the Navy, some of the unit web sites have their PT schedule posted for the incoming students.
 
Not sure about training with the NROTC marine options, but most NROTC programs every extra PT you can attend.

I've heard of things similar to this before, and my thought is that PT'ing with the Marines can only benefit you in your aide to be a SEAL.

Should definitely pursue that.
