NROTC - Yale, Princeton, Harvard...which is the best unit?

If it is not too late, copied from a previous post
This is what I have seen for NROTC interview scoring:
NROTC Motivation:
Max Score of 5: Applied to all sources but Navy and NROTC is first choice
Score 4: Any program will do but Navy is first choice -NROTC or USNA -Any way to get in the Navy is fine
So if USNA is #1 choice DS would score 4 not a 5.
So there is an impact but not very high.

Dress and look professional. Look and act like you want to be an officer.
Know why you want to be a naval officer.
Know the different Navy communities and be able to articulate which community you want and why.
Know your resume. Know examples of how you have shown leadership.
Know examples of when you have spoken to a large group.
The Navy is looking for STEM type applicants. Be able to articulate your involvement in math, computers, and science both in and out of the classroom.
What can you add that they don't already know about your physical fitness or physical activities.
Are there any special circumstances that they should know about or that you want to highlight

I have seen these categories and what would give max scores.
NROTC Program Motivation: Applied to all programs but definitely wants Navy and NROTC is first choice.
Service Over Self: Explicit in service over self - just wants to serve - May have other desires but overall, amenable to other communities - Fully career invested.
Physical Fitness: Exceptionally fit - Top athletic condition - Superb muscle tone - Embraces a culture of fitness - Muscular, fit and trim
Appearance/Bearing: Superb - Very mature - Dressed to impress - Sat up straight and was attentive during meeting - Conveyed great respect - Meets Navy standards of appearance already
Communications: Exceptional - Thoughtful and clean in response - Articulated answers with ease - Maintained eye contact throughout - Conveys professionalism and confidence
Overall Suitability for NROTC Program - Great potential to excel as a midshipman/officer - Highest recommendation - Of all applicants interviewed - Top 20%

Most importantly, be yourself.
After your interview, post back and let us know what you learnt.

DD has her interview today, any advice? We prepped her for a couple hours last night
Be prepared to answer how she has lead people, maybe had to do something that others disagreed with, why she wants to be a Navy officer.
Good luck to her. It's a nervous time as a parent sitting outside the office waiting for the interview to be over.
Do you know when the next board is that will review her app?

Thank you. I will relay your comments to her . From what I understand the next board is Jan 25th. I hoping they will tell her at the interview if her information will be presented at that board.

My son told his interviewer Navy was his only option. He was asked if he also applied to USNA - he was honest and told him NROTC was his plan B- and they had a really good conversation of NROTC vs USNA. My son also had Princeton as one of his 5, but not the top. He received his NROTC scholarship shortly after the interview, and was surprised it was placed with Princeton. He did receive his appt to USNA, but after his NROTC interview, he is unsure about USNA now. I think his STEM heavy classes and high test scores/grades really helped. He did not have much in EC's/volunteer/sports. The captain at Rugters NROTC called him and told him that the mids share a rental car to commute 3 days a week - leaving at 5:15 am. He told him there were 12 mids at Princeton. I honestly don't like the idea of commuting to Rutgers - especially since he has never driven in inclement weather! Good luck to your Daughter!

Interview update:
The officer ended with, "I cannot guarantee you will get scholarship, but after this interview and your very impressive resume, I do not see any reason how you will not be given a scholarship". To say the least, my DD was very happy with the way interview ended. He did not have timing details which was disappointing because he is not the one processing her application. She will send an email to the officer coordinating her application. This was a facetime interview, because the interviewer was 2 hours away from where we live. Some questions and comments from interview (mom was taking notes):

-Class rank ?
-Parents in military?
-Sports - Talked about the sports she has player
-Impressed about her involvement in her sports clubs and Olympic training involvement
-Are you a strong swimmer?
-Talked about school clubs she is in
-Ask about her volunteer activities
-Made some funny comments (complimentary..."Oh you are the one they were talking about with the test scores") about her high ACT. He did not have her transcript so he asked about her GPA
-Propensity to serve - what would you do if you if the medical path didn't happen and you were assigned as a pilot?
-What if NROTC scholarship didn't work out what are your plans?
-What if the NROTC didn't happen would you consider a commission after college?
-Physical fitness - commented on her high scores and how she trains almost year round for her sport
-What would be an experience that caused a challenge through miscommunication that you grew from?
-Teamwork - describe a leadership role that you fell into unexpectedly ?
-More questions about the sport she plays
-Tell us of a time when you sacrificed personal gratification and recognition to serve a larger goal and greater success of the community?
-When you had to make a judgement that negatively impacted some one?

I hope this helps future applicants, now we wait!!!

Thank nosnow about the Princeton information, good information. She has her Princeton alumni interview tomorrow. The Rutgers commute is not ideal that is for sure.

Just watched Trump's inauguration...wow..so exciting! I have read

After I got home I spoke to my DD about her interview. I asked her what was the hardest question for her..."When you had to make a judgement that negatively impacted someone".

Well my DD has some big dreams and I hope the NROTC scholarship board recognizes her desire, qualities, and drive and they give her this opportunity to fulfill her dreams. Thank you to everyone for your advice and comments they truly helped!

Hi there, just curious as to what happened to your daughter? How was the application process getting into HPY? What has she decided? Was having the NROTC a helpful bonus in getting into HPY?

Hello. My daughter was accepted into Yale and Princeton. Yes NROTC was the key. In end, she decided not to attend either school or use her NROTC scholarship. Something she never anticipated nor her parents. She decided to take a full ride academic scholarship to another school (non-ivy).

Is she no longer pursuing any military path? What was the game changer?

She is not pursuing a military path. She had pretty much been pursuing looking at only ivy league schools and NESCAC schools during high school, but had an experience at a non-ivy school (scholarship related) and high school teacher's opinions that changed her outlook of from " I am definitely going NROTC at an ivy league school" to considering options outside the NROTC and ivy league. She took the entire month of April to make her decision, which for her was the hardest month of her life due to the decision she had to make. It came down to many factors, but in the end it came down to "doubt regarding fit" and walking away from a full-ride scholarship.

Have you seen the women at Ole Miss? They once red shirted Miss America.
