hi all,

my son is applying for a NROTC scholorship. i see that the deadline for submission is January 31. i'm sure that there is an advantage to getting it in sooner than later as the selection board must use a 'rolling' admission. i hope he is not at too much of a disadvantage.

he has a Blue & Gold officer contact as he is also applying to the USNA. we've looked through the NROTC application and read about giving information to a 'recruiter'. where would we find the recruiter who handles the NROTC program?

my son has been accepted to Penn State University Park and has finished all of his requirements for the USNA application (DoDMERB, CFA, etc.) so i guess that he has a good start. does he have to notify DoDMERB of his interest in an NROTC scholorship?

any advice is appreciated. thanks.

In my daughter's case; she was contacted via email before she had finished her application. Evidently, the local recruiters are notified (provided access to the applications) before they are completed.

If you don't want to wait, you could contact either your local NROTC or the one at PSU. I'm sure they can provide a contact. If that doesn't work, I'll be happy to PM you the one we used in Pittsburgh. He was very helpful (and persistent).

Get that application submitted ASAP and Good Luck to you and your son.

The earlier the better for the NROTC scholarship. If your son would really like to attend Penn State University Park, he should put that as #1 on his college list on the application.

But, he should get the application ASAP. The more times it is reviewed, the better chance to be offered the scholarship. When my son applied for the NROTC scholarship two years ago, the recruiter contacted him because the application can be viewed online by the recruiters. But, we have also found that recruiters vary from area to area. Some are better than others. My son's was great and very helpful!

Good luck to your son and to you!

thanks for the information and support. it looks like we got everything in... we now see this:

Application has been submitted online Your electronic application has been received and is being processed ...
Your application is at CNRC for additional processing.

what is the CNRC? The Recruiting Center?

my son is clearly late in getting everything complete and submitted. i hope that he still has a chance at this. it would be quite an opportunity.

Go Navy!

CNRC = Navy Recruiting Command

The message that you posted is the correct one for this stage of the process. I'd check it every week or so to make sure that you don't need to submit / resubmit anything. Eventually it will change to (hopefully) say that your son has been selected. I'm sure he still has a very good chance at a NROTC scholarship.

Good Luck to the both of you.

update:

Application has been submitted online Your electronic application has been received and is being processed ...

Your application is at Naval Education and Training Command for final processing and selection determination. Selection decisions will begin in late August and continue until the end of April. Once a selection decision has been made, your new status will be reflected.

how often does the selection board meet, i wonder?

For those people waiting for a scholarship....not often enough. But on average it is about once a month through April. Good luck.
