NSI Iterations

Has there been any updates on whether Parents will be able to attend the NSI graduation?

Just finished a PNS meeting with our boss and I mentioned that there are parents wanting to see the NSI graduation in person.

Calling an audible here, but the answer is now a YES......but people need to have proof of vaccination to get access to the base.

The websites should reflect this in a day or two. (or 3).

So there you go. 😎

Just so folks know, the official list of names for Iteration 1 for NSI has been released. People should reach out to their NROTC unit and ask if they are on the list. The NROTC unit will assist with travel arrangements.

One note on this, there was a discussion earlier that NSI would only be for scholarship selectees. But, there is room enough to fit in some College Programmers. My quick count shows 39 people on the list.

The specific listing is in each unit's message traffic with the subject line of:
OFF MAIL MSG #065-22 NEW STUDENT INDOCTRINATION (NSI) MIDSHIPMEN CANDIDATE INFORMATION AND INSTRUCTIONS
If possible, can you share any insight on the college programmers that were invited to attend NSI? Curious if there are any other openings or options for other programmers.

That's a good question. We did wind up accepting several College Programmers to NSI for the 1st Iteration, and I suspect that will be repeated for the remaining 2 iterations. Those decisions are based on whether or not a person was able to clear DODMERB and how strongly an individual NROTC unit advocated for them to get an NSI spot.

We will have to look at final numbers once it all wraps up, but the team that has most of this information is knee deep in executing NSI.

Are they still processing college programmers at this time? I sent in my information extremely late as I was chasing around my sickle cell status and am worried I will not get a slot this year...

I don't think they have closed anything off in terms of processing, but it is a sort of first in, first out for NSI iterations. Your NROTC unit may have a better idea.

I sent my info in on June 4th. Happy to say I was out in session 3 on June 8th. Very quick turnaround! Thank you very much!

Glad it worked out for you. If a package is sent in using the checklist with all of the required items, then it's easy to do.

I wish there was a "love" button for this bit of wisdom.
I think it's better not to answer this in exact detail but offer you need to be physically ready and mentally resolved to get through NSI "no matter what" and ready for a challenge at all hours of the day and into the night. My son had a little trick - he broke down the financial benefit of the scholarship and divided that by the number of hours at NSI. He also kept imagining his future self "living his dream" as an officer in a few years. He was resolved to make it through and kept reminding himself he was being paid handsomely to be there and that this was a means to an end. For him, it worked. Do you think roughly 10% of people on a full-ride scholarship who just accepted a huge check in front of their entire school/ put their picture in the paper for their whole community (which I don't recommend by the way) and were talented enough to be awarded the national scholarship - the nation's elite, would quit a few days in, if it was easy?

On a sidenote I wonder if NSI allows caffeine/ coffee- I could confirm but already know, it certainly won't be as readily available... so those of you currently addicted to the coco bean who go to starbucks 3x per day, you might switch to decaf for a few weeks as going through NSI and caffeine withdrawal (IMPO it's a thing) would be hard. Especially if you"need" caffeine to wake up and get your day going.
The advice on breaking down the financials is amazing advice. $200,000 is $11,111/day and $463/hour. INCREDIBLE suggestion I will pass along. Thank you!!

As of today DS was officially notified of his NSI iteration (#3, as requested). He is MO and his NSI paperwork was received by NSI 32 days ago and had no medical "hiccups".
