NSI Scheduling and other Questions

If you wanted to, PM me with DS last name and first initial. I can call NSTC and ask then to reset the status so he can accept.

Or he can probably print acceptance form and sign. Then use Adobe scan to make a pdf and send back to NSTC. Either should work. And lastly, sometimes just using a different computer or different web browser will make it work.
Thank you. I sent you a PM. I'm going to have him fill out the paper form as well, just to cover his bases.

Sent a note to the Director of Placement. Paper form is always good but I am pretty sure it will get handled.
As of this morning, the portal should now reflect his scholarship acceptance.

He can email grlk_nrotc_cgo@us.navy.mil and let them know he has accepted. They will then send all of the NSI requirements. Plenty of time to get it all done.

Thank you kindly for your help! When I logged into his NETFOCUS account, it looks the same as it did yesterday. Shows his selection status but doesn't say anything about his scholarship acceptance.

I pulled up his selection email from October and there was a link to NETFOCUS. Used that one and was able to see that his scholarship acceptance is all set.

Thanks again for your help with this!

Our DS recently received the email with his paperwork to begin. For the NSI dates, I see they are assigned by the Navy it appears. Is there any idea if there is a "leeway" in the dates? In that, our DS would really hope for the first NSI date as he would like to attend CSI at The Citadel that occurs through the month of July and the only way he could hit that is to make the first NSI date.

From what I understand they ask if there's any certain conflicts that they need to take into consideration when scheduling.

My son wants to attend Summer Transition at VMI but he won't be able to because, like your son, he would have to attend the first session of NSI. And that's not possible because he won't graduate untill 6/21.

So he's either going to the second or third session which means no STP.

Thanks that's exactly what I was looking for! Graduation here is the end of May so he'd be clear for the first transition as far as dates go. Good luck with VMI! Our DS strongly considered going up there but ultimately looks to be coming back to my alma mater. Of course that all hinges on where the Naval Academy ends up.

My son was awarded the NROTC scholarship during the October boards and has since been accepted into his first choice school (VMI).

He has also completed his DoDMERB and he has been medically cleared.

He's been in contact with his pending NROTC unit, as they have reached out to him and provided information, etc. Most recently, they sent him a DTS form to complete and snail mail in.

They referenced a packet from the Navy that he should have received or would be receiving soon, which he has not seen yet. They said this packet would have more info on NSI, etc.

Have others received this yet? Have any of you selected which NSI session you'll be attending?

Do they send all of the cadets from a specific unit to the same NSI session?

He was hoping to attend VMI's Summer Transition Program but it conflicts with the two NSI sessions that he could attend (the first session takes place before he graduates high school).

Sorry for all of the questions... Just trying to figure all of this out!
Would appreciate any guidance on the physical eval forms toward the end of the NSI application packet. DS has it all completed but is not sure if he can simply submit his high school sports physical (top of the form has a note: athletes who have a current Pre participation Physical Eval (per state and local guidlines) on file need not to complete another History form.

So, since he has a current physical does he just send that in lieu of the physical exam and history form? Note, has current DodMERB from USNA app on file too (recent turn down at the goal line). He wants to send in the NSI packet this week so just helping to confirm all is set as he has done this on his own but asked for a quick review. Thoughts? Any help is greatly apprecaited.

So tbh, I actually brought my son in for a physical with his PCP for that, despite the fact that he has a sports physical on file with the school. I did not want to take any chances.

Plus there's the whole newborn sickle cell testing that has to be submitted. We do not live in the same state where he was born, so I had to call his birth state and request it, but they could only send it to his PCP.

I would not delay in getting that stuff in. It's a nutroll.

I don't see where it says you can submit another physical, but I could have missed it.

If you have the exact same form, that is less than 1 year from the end of NSI, that is provided by NSTC, then you can probably use the same form. If it does not look exactly like the form provided, then I would not use it and get the new physical based on the form provided. It it better to follow the instructions to the letter provided in the packet.

Thank you. Agree, and we are heading that route. It was the disclaimer on the top of page 15 that had me wondering if the 2023/ 24 school physical was sufficient versus getting a third physical (HS, DodMERB, NSI). I read on another chat that the state physical would suffice and thought I would see if anyone had expereince here before DS reached out to NSI. Appreciate your reply and agree better to do more than less.

We asked the doc who did DS's sports physical to "transfer" the sports physical onto the Navy provided form just to be sure. They did it no problem without having to make an appointment and get examined again. If you explain your situation maybe your Doc will do the same.

The sickle cell test is important. I ended up just paying out of pocket to get a new one because tracking down his new-born test was a frustrating bureaucratic nightmare.

Please excuse my ignorance, but how are students notified of their NSI assignment? I know they'll need time to review the paperwork and supporting documentation, but how long does that usually take this time of year?

They will get an email. Once you mail the documents and they are received on their end, it should only take a few days to get that email with your NSI iteration. They move pretty quickly 👌🏼

Thanks! They must be watching my posts because five minutes later, DS received a request for more medical info...even though he's fully cleared by DODMERB. Wish us luck. 🤞

Is it the unit or great lakes that emails candidates, and do all candidates receive an email confirming their papers were received?
I received an email from my unit informing me that I was in the 1st session, then later I was contacted and told that my session was ‘undecided.’
Never got any indication that my papers were received at Great Lakes. Is that normal?
I submitted everything in late April, and I keep getting worried that something went wrong…

I believe it's the unit. It was my son's unit that was in contact with us.

Might be best to reach out to them and ensure everything is on track. He heard back pretty quickly once his paperwork was received.

It is the Naval Service Training Command that sends out the initial notification of a scholarship being awarded. And then there should be a link with the NSI packet which includes step by step instructions. An email is also provided to address questions and that email goes to the Candidate Midshipmen Guidance Office.

The unit to which a person is assigned handles the initial travel from the home of record to Great Lakes and then for the return home. The unit does NOT receive any paperwork for NSI and they cannot tell you if there are any specific issues with your paperwork.

All questions should be sent to the email provided in the NSI packet.

And just in case someone is struggling to find the correct email address, besides being in the packet, it is listed on the NRTC website......Screenshot_20240527_135917_Chrome.jpg

According to our son:

Once CMGO at NSTC processed his entire package, they emailed him directly with his NSI assignment. Instructed him to coordinate travel with his assigned NROTC unit. He then established contact with his eventual NROTC unit via both email & telephone.

Assigned NROTC unit sent a link to their own Google Docs travel questionnaire.

Assigned NROTC unit acknowledged his completion of their Google Docs questionnaire and said to be on the lookout for further instructions as his NSI date approaches.

He also requested a school change (approved) after his NSI date was confirmed, but this had no impact on his plans.

He’s now handling everything with his assigned NROTC unit unless he’s instructed to do otherwise.

He checks the NSI homepage weekly in case any new docs are posted.
