Hello all,

Today I got an email from my MOI saying that NSI is not a requirement for cadets that will be attending SMCs this fall. I was really looking forward to going, am I still able to go regardless?

Doubt it. You'll still have a similar/same experience at the SMC. Nothing lost. In fact, I think your bonding experience will be way better than NSI.

That is true. He said the time would be better used training for whats to come at The Citadel. Still looking forward to it.

No - You will not be able to attend. You will get all the training you need during your Knob year. The USMC Contingent is great at The Citadel. Good luck.

My DS is going to The Citadel, as well. Navy, though. He's attending CSI in July and is looking forward to it!

csNuke - August in Charleston, SC is 99% humidity - make sure you prepare for the PT by doing a lot of running - in hot humid weather.....best of luck to you.

@lwright3877 - thanks for sharing and interesting data point. I was under the impression that all NROTC & NROTC-MO attending one of the SMCs would not be attending NSI this summer. Please keep us posted and good luck to your son. As a parent of a current NROTC-MO mid, please reach out if you have any questions about knob year, or anything else!

Correct me if im wrong, but CSI is the Citadel Success Institute that takes place at the Citadel and is more college credit oriented. Also costs a little money.

I’m coming from Eastern NC, so roughly the same climate. I’ve been here 5 years and still not acclimated when it comes summer time. Gonna try my best this year. thanks!

Correct - I misread your post since the thread was discussing NSI. CSI was cancelled last year, but is a great opportunity to get familiar with the campus, meet some of your knob buddies, take a class and get acclimated to The Citadel.

As far as NSI goes, not sure if there will be anything before matriculation day. I doubt it. You will get everything you need from the NROTC Battalion and The Citadel during your Knob year.

My son will be at VMI this fall on a NROTC scholarship. He was told the same thing. He was looking forward to possibly attending NSI, but was advised none of the SMC's would be sending them. I am sure he will get all of the training he needs and then some this fall.
