Does anyone know:
1. How many people are typically selected for Nuke school?
2. What are the requirements for selection?
3. Among the people that go through, how many go to Subs vs. Aircraft Carriers?
4. Is Chemistry a good major for this option?

I was told at NASS that if you are selected to go Surface WO, then you could select Nuke School.. I just want some more information. Thanks in advance!

This really is a great question begging a response from a current midshipman, specifically one who just went through service selection. I do know you can select from SWO as I know a couple of recent grads who plan to do just that. As I recall they both were mechies. Best wishes to you.

You can service select SWO-Nuke. You are a division officer (non-engineering billet) until you get SWO qualification, then you attend Nuke school in Charleston.

As with subs, you interview with Naval Reactors (ADM/O-10) and are quizzed on math and science.

Well, this may not/will not address all of your questions specifically, but it will give you a lamp unto your foot in a few:

For those who might be interested, the service assignment numbers are now out for USNA Class of 2011.

#Assigned - Community:

227 Pilot
75 Naval Flight Officer
225 Surface (Conventional)
32 Surface (Nuclear)
132 Submarines (8 women)
30 SEAL
14 EOD
22 Restricted Line
10 Medical Student
767 Total Navy

190 Marine Corps Ground
78 Marine Corps Air
268 Total Marine Corps

Chemistry majoring is an excellent precursor to nuke selection, but not the only one, nor the optimal.
