Numbers of slots available?

Summary Profiles of the USMMA Class of 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015

USMMA - Offered Appointment vs. Reported on I-Day:

2019 - 361 vs. 255 = 106 declined or 29.36 % declined an Appointment
2018 - 378 vs. 252* = 126 declined or 33.33 % declined an Appointment
2017 - 354 vs. 237 = 117 declined or 33.05 % declined an Appointment
2016 - 409 vs. 273* = 136 declined or 33.25 % declined an Appointment
2015 - 412 vs. 285* = 127 declined or 30.82 % declined an Appointment
* number includes International Students

(as seen in pdf file, below) From 2015-2018, the number kids who started Applications averaged 2,189 per year. However, in 2019 the number kids who started Applications dropped by 527 or 24.07 % in one Year! This huge drop off can not be explained by the numbers USMMA has published. For example, ratio of the number of USMMA Inquires to number of USMMA Applications Started is approx.:

2019 - 21%
2018 - 24%
2017 - 22%
2016 - 23%
2015 - 28%

In addition, ratio of USMMA Application Starts/USMMA Application In-Completes (Kids not completing an Application they started) has been steady (at about 61-62% ) for the last 5 years. Only 2018 had 57.37% (Kids not completing an Application they started) Thus, one can rule out a notion that the Application process has been made harder for 2019 vs. the previous (4) years).

Something has caused the number of Applications starts to drop 24% in 2019. Please don't shoot the messenger !

Pure speculation but, if that number is not just a reporting glitch, I wonder if it's related to the adverse publicity USMMA received in 2012-2013, which could have affected applications in 2014 and 2015?

If anyone is speculating, it is you by making a causal connection to something from 2012-2013, (which I have no clue as to what that was) !

I just posted what the USMMA put up on the USMMA Website.

My post was unclear; I meant that I was the one speculating. The USMMA class of 2019 graduated HS in 2014 and 2015, meaning, those applicants were likely doing their research and applications in 2013-2014. Did the negative publicity in 2012-2013 depress the number of applications? I don't know, but there seems to be a temporal correlation.

Which is why KP needs to bring back the "Fundamentals of Grappling Hooks and Cutlasses" course.
BTW, any truth to the rumor that it was Chris Kyle who relieved Captain Somali of duty at the end?

No, Mr. Kyle was not involved. I have a friend who is a close friend of one of the shooter(s) who is now very happily retired.

usmma2020z- how did you got that news? cant find it in website. hoping for a good news somehow. thanks for the information.

2013 is the year Captain Phillips came out. They got scared off by the prospect of Somali pirates........

That prospect never fazed me. . . has been around forever. The business is fraught with risk. . . and while I don't sail any longer, travel to some less that stable countries is part of my job description. . .

usmma2020z - I'm on hold CO-5 , only 1 left spot then for Co because of one who declined appointment. Have you heard if they are giving prep school offers ?

CO is allocated 4 slots. So we filled our allocated slots. However, 15 people from CO could get appointed if they all rank well on the NWL. It just depends on how many points your application scored because most states have filled their allocated slots at this point.

When it comes to prep school offers, I have no clue. From what I've read on other threads here, they're filled already. But again, I don't know anything about those myself.

The amount of appointment open have got to be getting extremely slim at this point. Yours just might be in the mail! I'm pulling for you man!!

Thank you for your explanation. I just have to wait. Plan b for my scholarship in other school ends may 1. Hoping to hear soon
