My DD is very interested in the SA, however, she is fairly sure she wants to be a nurse. Are there tracks to be an RN in the SA's. My research tells me there is nothing "traditional" and I know about ROTC options but want to exhaust this research and this forum is amazing so I thought I would ask.

Thank you all for your input and expertise. (and many of you for your service.)

You cannot select nurse corps out of USNA. Not an option. Medical corps is an option for a very, very limited number (as in 12) each year. Also cannot go directly into Dental Corps or Medical Service Corps out of USNA.

Can't speak for the other services. I believe most RNs commission through OCS, but could well be mistaken about that.

Building on answer from @usna1985, one attends USNA with the expectation and desire that they’ll become an unrestricted line officer. That is, serving primarily in surface warfare, submarines, aviation or Marines as combat officers. As noted, a precious few will go the med school route. A few more will go restricted line (for example, as a supply officer) because of some injury or illness that precludes them from a front-line job.

If nursing is the primary goal, another route would be advised.

Here are the usual paths. USNA is not a path.

I believe Navy nurses are all BSN, not RN.

Don’t overlook one of the 7 uniformed services (5 of the 7 are also armed services), USPHS as a commissioned officer:

USPHS officers have rank, wear Navy-style uniforms but with USPHS insignia, have similar pay and benefits, serve in interesting and rewarding fields.

Also cannot go directly into Dental Corps or Medical Service Corps out of USNA.

A classmate of mine (2018) did get Dental Corps. She is at UPenn now. I haven't heard of anybody else going dental besides her and I'm not completely sure how she finagled it.

When I was a BattO back in the late 20th C, mids could go medical or dental. Same number of seats as today, plus or minus. I was the duty BattO on the med option interview board, and in 3 years, did not see one dental candidate. The option is probably still there but rarely sought.
