Hello, I received my NWL letter on my portal this morning, and I'm just curious as to what exactly this means. Thank you for any help you can give!

EDIT:
Here is the contents of the letter if it is helpful.
"Dear Peter: The Admissions Office has received all your information and the Admissions Committee has reviewed your application. You have been found fully qualified and placed on the national waiting list.
Several hundred cadetships will be filled from this waiting list with most appointments being made between 1 March, 2021 and 1 May, 2021. You are still competing for admission and should continue to update your record with significant achievements in academic, leadership, and extracurricular and athletic activities. Additionally, please ensure your school provides your seventh semester transcript to the Admissions Office as soon as possible, if you have not already done so. You will be notified immediately of any change in your status. Final selection from the waiting list may be made only a few days before the class enters.
Thank you for your continuing interest in West Point, and good luck in your efforts to gain admission."

It means that you are fully qualified for the academy and that you will be accepted if they find a place for you. But this is not a guarantee that you will be offered admission, there are plenty of people who are found fully qualified that do not get an appointment. Right now you are in the thick of appointments going out so it may be a while till you find out. Good luck to you.

It's a good place to be and means you are 3Qd and still in the running. Somewhere on this forum its states that your chances are about 50/50 from there. DS got that letter in mid November but unfortunately a TWE last week. If you use the search bar you will find many threads on the topic. Fingers crossed for you!

Understood, thank you both. Are all qualified candidates receive this letter, or does it mean that I was not initially selected and am therefore on the wait list? I'm not terribly familiar with the process, so I'm quite a bit confused.

All qualified candidates are put on this list. Some are told (like you) with an official letter, some are not told. I received that exact letter in January and received an appointment last month.

That makes sense. I was thinking this was a "it's possible, but unlikely" situation. Thank you!

So I've confused myself again. Does this letter mean I did not win my nomination slate? I apologize for the spam.

By this time in the process, yes. However, this does not mean you cannot get an appointment. Realistically you have nothing else to do so relax and enjoy the rest of your senior year!

wat does nomination slate mean??
If you haven’t read the Sticky post at the very top of the Nominations forum, now is a good time to do so.
“Slate” in this context means “list of nominated candidates” submitted by an elected official.

I was deemed fully qualified and placed on the NWL a few weeks ago. Just received the notification of my appointment today. Once you get on the NWL it is a waiting game. Best of luck.

Congtats to all on the NWL. DS received email that he is on the NWL March 2nd, came at 2 in the morning. We are holding out hope here!

There is really no way to know. There are several possibilities:
  • A slate winner has been offered appointment and accepted
  • A slate winner has been offered appointment and has not yet accepted
  • A potential slate winner has been determined, but is awaiting medical waiver approval
  • The slate is unresolved and you are in close competition with one or more to win the slate
  • The slate is unresolved and you are not in close competition with others competing to win the slate
As time goes on, the last two become less likely.

Sounds good, thank you.
