Hello,

Just saw in the news that NY and NJ are making all visitors that come from hot-spot Covid-19 areas isolate for 14 days. How do we think this will effect the date of R-Day?

Thanks.

It won't, you guys will be effectively quarantined in WP anyway.

Agreed. If any follow up were performed by any NY agency, they would find that you are tightly ensconced at USMA and not going anywhere. And if you want to get technical, West Point is federal property and not a part of the state of New York.

If I read Cuomo’s directive correctly, it basically calls for people to self-quarantine for 14 days.

I think the academies are already in compliance. My son is in quarantine right now at USNA.

You will be doing training concurrently with the controlled monitoring period. I do not know the specifics of what that will entail and how it differs from the lanes you will be doing later in the detail.

So believe the quarantine is advisory. For people attending academies you will be quarantined anyway. For family members visiting you have the option not to quarantine as this is advisory and not mandatory.

Don't overthink this. As others have said, you will be effectively quarantined inside the military reservations. That does not mean you will be locked in a barracks room. You will be tested and then go through the training events with a group of people.

LOL my overthinking was about a wedding at the end of July where relatives are scheduled to go from Florida.

The military academies already have it under control. My son said the quarantine isn’t as bad as he thought it would be.

@A1Janitor : I haven't flown in a while but how is the governor going to know where you're supposed to be if you don't live in the state? Your Florida guests can stay anywhere they want; probably somewhere close to the ceremony/reception location. & how much is the fine he's talking about anyway...How about the same amount paid by the out-of-state protesters who graced SoHo with their presence for some shenanigans a couple of weeks ago when downstate NYS wasn't even open at Phase 1??..in other word's they weren't fined at all for exercising their 1st. Amendment rights...which freedom of religion also is & attending a wedding passes muster to me. Coumo's first name is not King!

The article states that the judge will issue a decision by close of business Friday.
Also fines range in the 2K-10K range.

[Moderator hat off] It sure screwed up my plans for a summer vacation to visit friends and family in upstate NC. Of course there were plenty of NY and NJ plates here in coastal NC when they were at the peak of the pandemic. 😡 [moderator hat on]

When reporting for R-Day new cadets will be traveling on military orders. Without doubt USMA will inform the Governor's office of plans for movement, just as they have for returning classes.

The problem isn’t for the cadets it’s for the parents. If parents travel in from one of the “hot” states they will have to quarantine for 14 days before they’ll be allowed in a return flight.

As far as auto travel goes:

One of the WP parent sites state if travel by car to transport cadet to military academy or military base (i.e. not for vacationing/family/business trip, etc)... then no 14 day requirement... just have proper documents in hand when pulled over by trooper and/or checkpoints.
