The federal beuracuracy strikes again! This whole process feels like a day at the DMV for the first time. *sigh* but hopefully it will be worth it in the end.
Back when I was in high school, I was definitely no PT stud. My biggest problem then was making excuses for myself, but also having very little time to actually work out or design a PT plan for myself. In any event, once I got into college and started SROTC I had my bum handed to me quite a number of times by that damned APFT. My run, especially , was absolutely terrible. What helped me the most was that I started doing interval work outs and alternating sprint laps around my school's quad. They were real short (only about 2 miles, break, then another 2 miles ) but I went from an 18:30 2 mi time to a 14:45. And being able to do 2miles at that speed greatly increased my 1mile time. We all have our hurdles in life (academics, writing ability, test taking, physical aptitude) but like anything it's a work in progress that we just need to bite the bullet and buckle down to get under our control.
Might I inquire what his original mile time was?
