I still want to fly helos, but I understand that if I don't get it, there will be plenty of other cool things to do. For me, the potential to be stuck in ND if I didn't make it into that tiny pool of cadets selected for flight training was a dealbreaker.

Understood. With goaliegirl, she could have applied for the ROTC scholarship to lots of places including a local opportunity where she interviewed (the PMS told her that he wanted her locally) that would have been full ride including enough other money to more than cover R&B. However, her goals of both ROTC and college hockey led her where she is.
