October 15, 2012 AROTC Board

Why is that a shocker?

1st board is always the smallest, and with sequestration issues I am not surprised. The military with 500 BN more on the table that might be cut come Jan. 2nd aren't going to hand out scholarships like candy for Halloween. They may be facing more dets closing.

The thread lit up, and to me that is important because posters now know results are out, they can address their next step.

AROTC only awards 200 scholarships in the first board. those who've received them should be proud!!

Should mention that I got my first choice too, but don't care to share what that is!! Still holding out for a USNA appointment.

I received an AROTC scholarship to UC Berkeley, my 6th choice of 7 schools I listed. I have been talking to the PMS of my #1 school, UVA, for a while now and I'd really prefer my top 5 choices over where I recieved a scholarship. Is there anyway to transfer the scholarship to another school(also in case I don't get into UC Berkeley)?

If my status page says nothing about receiving a scholarship, can I automatically assume that I was moved onto the next board?

Yes, although there may still me more scholarships trickling out from this board. We don't know if all the updates were made yet. Maybe, maybe not. But in any case, if your status doesn't change you will automatically be reboarded.

Scholarship to University of Texas

Awarded scholarship today to 2nd/3rd choice (I can't remember my order exactly), University of Texas at Austin!

Congratulations, my son also got a 4 year scholarship to UT! If you don't mind me asking, do you live in Texas?

Stay positive. This is the board where fewer are selected - the 2 remaining will award typically a higher overall number of scholarships. Yes, AROTC scholarships are very competitive, but don't give up the goal/dream yet:thumb:

I believe you have posted about SMP/Reserves/Guard...don't swear in just yet, but keep in contact with your schools/ROOs and see how January and March go for you. The wait is rough, but no one should immediately "assume" anything.

Congrats to all the scholarship winners and their families

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm not swearing in yet. I have been told the January board gives out the most scholarship allocations by the PMS I interviewed with. The downside to that is alot more people are entered into the second board. Any details on the exact date the board meets in January. Will we need to update GPA for January board? Will I also be able to change school list around? answers to these questions would be greatly appreciated.

Is this correct? 200 scholarships total for the first board? I didn't realize what an honor it was to be selected in the first round.

timetocarrigan,

Congrats on your scholarship, just curious are you a CA resident or VA resident?

As it has been stated before there is an opportunity to request your scholarship to be transferred, BUT that doesn't happen until next spring.

DODMERB

Now that I was offered an AROTC scholarship, does anyone know if I will have to redo my DODMERB physical, as I already qualified on the DODMERB for USNA a couple of months ago? I'm not worried about passing, just curious.

If you already qualified DODMERB for SA, you are good to go for ROTC scholarship. Congrats!

@ Pima,
I am from VA and my 1-5 and 7th choices were all on the East Coast.
Are transfers common and what month is that opportunity available?

timetocarrigan,

Interesting since you are a VA resident, thus scholarship wise it would be IS.

I will leave to AROTC posters to comment on why you got UC Berkeley over UVA.

As far as availability regarding transfers I can't and wont answer.

Regarding time frame for transfers, I have answered...next spring.

when is the next board, and how many scholarships will be given out then? more than 200?

The next board is scheduled for the beginning of January. Not sure how many scholarships will be awarded, but I believe more scholarships will be given out in the January board than the October board.

I have an additional question: If we did not receive a scholarship from the first board and we are being re-boarded, will our applications be viewed first since we completed our applications in time for the first board? I know many people will still be submitting applications for the January board, so will those who completed their applications early and got re-boarded be given first priority?

Good luck to all ROTC applicants waiting on a decision and congrats to all those already awarded a scholarship!

Thanks to all previous posters and we send our congratulations to everyone who has received a scholarship or has applied for one. This is a great country and it's future looks bright knowing young men and women still want to serve.

I believe someone posted the link a couple of pages ago or just google ROTC scholarship status.

Still Hopeful

If my status page says nothing about receiving a scholarship, can I automatically assume that I was moved onto the next board?

Fengawr,
Don't give up on the first board yet. It looks like the results started on Friday morning. In the past it has usually taken two days to upload the results. You may see more results posted on Monday. I have not seen too many posts for the north. I have also not heard Clarkson or Marist say that it is over!

You will want to accept the AROTC scholarship within the 30 day time limit even though the school was way down on your list. I suggest you call Cadet Command and find out whether and how you should annotate your letter of acceptance of the scholarship. There is probably no point to formally requesting a transfer to a specific higher choice school until you have been admitted to that school, and you are unlikely to know that for many months. Your concern about admission to Berkeley may be valid; I'm under the impression that UC Berkeley is tough to crack for out-of-state students who are not seven feet tall or baton twirling champions (or both).

Even if you can't apply for a transfer now, it won't hurt to contact the PMS or recruiting officer at UVA to let them know you have been awarded the scholarship but intend to apply for a transfer once you have been admitted.
