I understand that the Army ROTC review board met Oct 28-30. Does anyone have an idea when letters will be sent out notifying scholarship recipients? Does anyone know if the Scholarship Application Status website is updated to reflect scholarship receipt? My son's status page has not changed from saying that he should set up an interview with the PMS at his school of choice (which he did in July). Thanks.
 
I can tell you what happened with my son who was awarded his scholarship from the board in September. The first board met September 23-25. His status online was changed from "Interview with a PMS" to "You have been offered a 4 Year Army ROTC Scholarship" the following Friday, October 3rd. We received his letter from Cadet Command confirming the same on Monday, October 6th. We emailed in his acceptance form with choice of college the next morning, and that choice was reflected online by that afternoon. Good luck to your son!
 
Three questions about AROTC:
1. How can I add a school to one of my choices after the application is submitted?
2. If I have an interview on November 24, will I make the November board?
3. They tell me to take the presidential fitness test, where do i get instructions and how do I submit my scores?
 
1. All you have to do is log in and change it
2. I'm not sure what date the Nov. board is but I think it should only take a couple days for your interview to be submitted
3. Go to the presidential fitness test website and print a scorecard, it will also tell you how to do it, have a p.e. teacher, jrotc teacher, or coach give you the test, send the scores to Cadet Command

Son is wrapping up his AROTC scholarship package and when will the Nov. board selection be? Thanks for any news.
 
GOT ACCEPTED TO DREXEL!! My AROTC interview is there in two weeks, I really need that scholarship casue its expensive at drexel, although they did give 10500 towards tuition.

Duh! I finally get your name! You are a Philadelphia Flyers fan! You will have a great time in Philly - great backup plan! Keeping my fingers crossed for that AROTC scholarship for you!

PS - can you do coop with a AROTC scholarship? I don't know how that works.

Thank you, what do you think I should wear to the interview? My suit that I bought for MOC interviews?

I wasn't positive so I applied for no coop just to play it safe.
 
Wearing a suit will be fine. A sport coat at least and khakis. The officers that interview you will be in their dress uniform - Class A's.

You might want to ask about coop. What do you want to major in?

Did you also receive that letter saying that they changed the process from PMS to the 3 to 5 Officer board?
My son received that one even after he interviewed with a PMS Officer a month ago. He's now been accepted at The Citadel and we still haven't heard back from Cadet Command other than they want his activities record verified by his HS Guidance Counselor. Our POC told us his application was complete for the Oct. 28-30 Boards. The website still says "Interview with PMS" today.

Hmmmm...check that, the AROTC site now says this:

You may check your medical qualification status by visiting the Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board DoDMERB WebSite

It did say Interview yesterday??? His DoDMERB says he's qualified for the USMA, what can this change in status mean???

I just edited this as I can't access the DoDMERB site and found his letter from the DoDMERB and it only says he's Qualified for the USMA, I would think that would count for the AROTC...right?

AROTC Board Process

In response to your questions, Maximus, we received a letter from Cadet Command when my son became a finalist and before he scheduled his interview and DoDMerb examination. The letter described the process of going before a board of 3 to 5 officers for final decision. At his interview, the PMS explained that this was the first year where they were going back to a centralized board to select scholarship winners as opposed to the PMS of each school doing it locally. After his interview was complete and had been turned in, we got an email from his POC stating that his application was complete. We got this about a week before the September board met. He had heard from DoDMerb by letter that he was classified as "Qualified" in early September. On the "Check Status" website, it said both, "You have been awarded a 4 Year Army ROTC Scholarship to..." and it listed the top 4 colleges on his list and it mentioned he could check his DoDMERB status and then gave the link. I don't know if those two statements appear independently or not when they are entered into the system. If you haven't gotten an email that your application is complete, and you know for sure your activities verification from your counselor is outstanding, it could be that your packet is not considered complete yet. Check with your POC again.

Intended Career if I attend Drexel: Government Law Enforcement

Also another question, how much free time to ROTC students get?

I know USMA cadets get like thanksgiving christmas and a weekend, how bout ROTC students?

Yes we received the "POC complete email. About a week or two later we received a snail mail about the change in the process. We also received the "Board of 3 to 5 Officers" letter about three weeks after the PMS Interview at the closest University on his list. That letter also asks for verification of things like Work, Athletics, JROTC and Awards.
Congratulations, your scholarship file is now being sent to the next selection board for consideration for a 4-Year Army ROTC Scholarship. In addition to the board reviewing your file for the scholarship, the Professors of Military Science at the schools you have listed in your application will review your academic credentials as a predictor of your ability to gain admission. However, the Professor of Military Science does not decide who is admitted to the school, that is done by the college or university's admissions department.



You also need to ensure you do apply to each school on your list of choices, and contact their admissions department for specific admissions information and questions.



Because your file is currently under review, you will not be able to make any changes to your schools of choice or your order of preference.



Once again congratulations on making the choice to compete for an Army ROTC Scholarship completing your application.

Nope it should say AROTC. They are two different programs. Check with Mullen on the Dodmerb forum - he will square you away.

Being in AROTC is very much like just being in college. You can go home on the weekend! Talk to the PMS about the unit. Most do one Sat a month plus the class which meets usually once a week.
You even can still have a summer job, although there are some excellent training programs available for AROTC cadets you need to sign up and be very proactive.
The summer before your senior year you will go to Ft Lewis with all ROTC cadets. This experience will go a long way in determining your rank - which will determine how your branch upon commissioning.
