Odd Reapplying Question

So last year I applied for the class of 2015. I was an athlete and basically assured of an appointment that never came. They told me to go to NMII for a semester and I didn't. I went to my state u and ran xc. I recently e-mailed their coach about reapplying and was told to get a release for athletic reasons. So I will do this. Here is my question, I did not fill out any nom stuff and have not even started the app, can I still get an appointment. I feel as though the coach can make this happen. The USMA coach told me he would get the release and "we can make this happen." Could it be the same at USAFA.

First, no one is assured an appointment without an LOR, nomination, and medical qualification or a letter of appointment. Next, you were recommended to do a prep program, but you chose not to. Now, you have done essentially no work towards the application process and you want to know if you can be accepted? What exactly are you expecting here?

Can you still get an nomination? Have you looked at the deadlines for your Congressman's and Senators' nomination applications? Can you still submit your application to them?

Why haven't you started your USAFA application? If you don't do it, it will not get done.

I know I still have to fill the application out obviously. And the nomination interviews have already happened. Last year I had a nom, med qualified, academically, but no vacancy. Talked to the coach was told I would get in and it did not happen. My question still remains is this possible. I heard last year of noms specifically charged to the academy sup. or something of the sort at USMA and USAFA. But if it is true I wanted to know if I had to apply for other noms.

This year will be more competitive than last year. Talk to the coach and find out what he/she can do for you regarding nominations. They would know better than anyone on the forums. It is rather late in the race to get started so do what you can as soon as possible.

Good luck. :thumb:

Thought I would give an quick update. Got my release to speak with USAFA and was told my chances would be VERY good to receive an appointment, would just need to complete the application pretty quickly, still undecided as to what to do.

Get cracking on it buddy! Best of luck and be sure to Sink Navy next year!

Wait, I'm confused.....you are posting the same question thread on both the USMA & USAFA forum sites. You are saying you were previously promised an appointment to BOTH academies but neither came through????? What am I missing?

yes I was told I this at both academies, while USMA was a bit different due to coming into contact with them later, but USAFA I was shocked not to receive one, especially after what I was told.

How bad do you want this? Are you willing to do the research and work required to get all the required items? To me, it sounds like you expect the nomination to be handed to you. Poor assumption!

I don't mean to come off as rude, but from what you have written, it does not sound like you are very serious about getting an appointment. It is more than an hour or two of work to get one. Athletic staffs can help point you in the right direction, but you still need to meet all the requirements and submit all the pieces. Nominations are spelled out in federal law. A coach cannot just will one into being.

I definitely understand why it may seem that way. One is I was so frustrated and disappointed with how things went last year I am hesitant. To be told that and not realize it was crushing. It will be tough to leave only because I have a team and my brother here and also it has to happen if I apply. I can not just drop out or tell my coaches I am leaving and not. That would end poorly for me. And it is simply a big decision

Global, I hope you are spending this time getting everything in since time is of the essence here. You can't just wait around debating this in your mind.

Still, it does concern me that you were requested to go to NMII and decided, um, not to do so.

What was the reason you opted not to go that route?

Most of it had to do with the fact that I was frustrated with the process and how things turned out. After they had told me I did not get in the said the prep school, that did not work for some reason. I am waiting in my app to open back up. Also, it I cant exactly just apply and have contact with the coach(which I have to do to get the nom and just to get in this late) because if things don't work out my situation at my current university could get tricky

Okay, I am sorry if I am beating a dead horse, but just a question. With not applying for any nominations, can I still get in? The coach will be in contact over the phone very soon, but I just wanted to ask because I am impatient. I KNOW I can get into West point but Air Force is top priority.

You cannot get an appointment without a nomination. I hope you have spent the last couple of weeks working your tail off contacting USAFA and your ALO to get things going. Waiting around for the coach to call or for someone to answer you on this forum is not going to get you in.
