Off campus uniform wear

AS for traveling, all I can tell you is that when my son flew to Air Force Field Training, they were specifically told not to wear anything military. I guess it is not to attract attention. Having said that, their haircuts and the fact that they were carrying military duffle bags made it obvious who they were. I saw some Marines in civilian clothing (no idea if they were AD or Rotc) at the airport at that same trip and it was obvious who they were. I think their duffle bags had Marine Corp on it to confirm.

Sit in the Atlanta airport waiting for a flight on a Friday night and it's easier to count how many are not in uniform. I'm even surprised at our airport in Seattle how many fly in their ACU's, ABU's and so on.

So you're saying I wasn't being friendly or what.....what was your point? To tell me that I've to learn how to respect ppl?

I've been watching this thread for a couple of days now and to answer your question, and this is just a suggestion to do with what you will, but checking that attitude might serve you well in the future. You can sometimes guess who is on the other side of a conversation on these forums based on the sort of response you get, but regardless, you never know truly who you're talking to. Some are parents, other students / cadets, ex. or retired military, enlisted, some from the officer side of the house both senior and junior, cadre, possibly your future supervisors or worse case scenario, the guy or gal who gets to write or approve your next fitness report. Additionally, just because most don't know each other, it's still a small community, across all branches, and you would be amazed how rapidly reputations get spread whether warranted or not.

You replied in an earlier post something to the effect : "How long did it take you to write that"? My thought reading that is how would that sound to a three star if you were asking him or her that to their face? If you are not dead certain who you were actually speaking or in this case writing to and knew that they would understand that it was in jest, best option is to try another tack. Just reading it sounded flippant, like you were talking down to that person or just plain ill mannered. You are correct, people can't understand intent but whether deserved or not, can and will be used against you correctly or incorrectly. That goes across all lines also. You wouldn't speak like that to a field grade officer nor should you to a senior enlisted member either. Both can ruin not only your whole day but possibly your career.

Totally agree with @BTCS/USN. If you are a candidate, you should strive to make everything you put in writing as professional and polished as possible. This includes emails, letters, and yes, internet forum posts.

But we're not in a working environment, are we?

Most of us treat this as a work environment.

This forum is here for candidates to optimize their chances of a favorable outcome regarding SA's and ROTC and/or DoDMERB. This is not a social network. Yes, we keep a sense of humor but overall the questions are taken very seriously. I try to write my answers in business style, and back up my statements with sources when appropriate.

Many of us who answer questions have benefited from the forum and wish to give back or "pay it forward." You have everyone from junior high students on up to retired O-6's and even flag officers on this site.

Why WOULDN'T you put your best foot forward?

7OFSPADES, you would be wise to head the advice you are receiving in the many responses on this thread. These people are trying to give you helpful feedback. Look at the number of responses telling you to adjust your attitude - most of these people have had a lot more life experience than you and many come from the military life you are working toward. Ask yourself how all of these people could be wrong and you are right.

You can learn the easy way by listening to this type of feedback now, or you can learn the hard way later.

JMPO, but quit feeding the troll.

Actually Kinnem, you may be right....BUT I'm willing to give the OP the benefit of the doubt and take his posts seriously as a newcomer and an incoming AS100 freshman who has not contracted yet nor has even engaged with his detachment command. If that is all true, then he has a lot to learn beginning in the fall semester.

The posts may still educate other new cadets/mids regardless.

This is why I respond, even though he attacked me with no provocation. There are posters and lurkers that may have a question that is tied to what they asked in the 1st place.

Three stars don't write anything on their own.... so the answer would be "not long."
