Cadets must be back in the regimental area no later than 9:00 p.m. and are not allowed to consume any alcoholic beverages.

Thanks for the info. My oldest son lives in Pittsburg so we were planning on making it a vacay on our way to see him (if he is still living there). It's on our way so it wouldn't be too much trouble. The military is all new to us, so we may just enjoy the informational portion.

If there's one thing I learned from my time in the service and watching my older son through graduation and two years of service so far, is that things change on a dime. Best thing he can do is stay informed of all the changes and be proactive, and of course, never assume anything. The rules are ever changing.

Very true with my son's experiences also.

If you remember

This is the same group of cadets that back in 2011 waited, waited and waited for the board results to come out. This group should be ready for every curve ball, cancelled land nav, administrative tornado, disappearing PMS, tattoo changing policy and whatever in the world is changing next.

Completely unrelated to the topic, really, but I had a pretty good lunch at the Saber and Quill when I was at Knox back in May. For whatever that's worth to a visiting parent.

I shared this same thought with a parent when LDAC started to blow up - this is the group that has seen all too many times what kind of crazy CC can throw. The OMS for accession will be a mess, branching will be delayed and probably sometime in the spring there will another "crisis" that will cause CC to undo it all and have to re-release it......prepare for anything and have plans B-Z in place. Oh well, at least the path never gets boring:rolleyes:

So at the beginning of the year they put more evaluation at the battalion level with the PMS evals., now after just one ear they are taking that away and shifting it into GPA.

Also, if there is no FTX or MS Labs, what are the MS-IV's supposed to do for a year. Part of there leadership training is running those two things and helping to train and aveluate the MS-III's. They will have their military science classes but that is it.

Welcome to an Army that has no money and does not need you.

Here in lies the contradiction.

The Army has no money....agreed.

ROTC Cadet Command has decided to eliminate FTX, and tactical training from the Battalion level. This was taught be a cadre that is already in place and does not require the cadets to travel from school.

Cadet Command is adding an additional summer training program for cadets between their freshman and junior year. This means they will have to fly cadets from all over the country to Ft. Knox twice instead of once. Not to mention the added staff and cadre that will be required.

For an Army that has no money they don't seem concerned with spending Millions to add an extra summer training session for things that have been taught at the Battalion level for, well, ever.

Not really taking the evals away from the PMS. Currently the percentage of the PMS eval is 27%. Under the new program according to some reports is that the PMS evals, OER's will be worth 30%

It isn't the GPA that will be worth more, it will be the total academics which will include the GPA at a lesser value and the results of a Standardized Test. The GPA will actually be a lesser percentage of the OML.

I will agree with you on one thing, What will the MS4's do with all their time. My son was set to plan FTX for the Spring semester, guess he'll have to find another job.

I guess it might reduce some of the military staff required at the schools, but they may have to add more Human Resource people to track everything.

Also curious if there will be a reduction in the number of cadets going to airborne, air assault, culp, ctlt and so on since they have 2 summers of required training now.

Not to divert the thread but as of right now what are the schools that are open to AROTC cadets?

Airborne and Air Assault are the most common.

There are sometimes slots for Mountain Warfare, more for summer and just a select few for winter.

Some ROTC cadets have received slots for Buckner which is a course for the USMA.

In the past a very few number have been selected for Combat Diver Qualification Course but I think they have cut those numbers even more.

There are sometimes a few more that open up on a limited basis, it's best that the cadet let the MstSgt at his battalion know he has a desire and some cadre will search out opportunities.

USNA midshipman son is at CFT at camp Buckner and he arrived with Army ROTC cadets. I think it is about 9 midshipman, 50 ARTOC and the rest WP Rising Yuks

I would think Buckner slots would surely go away as MS-II's and III's will be at Knox now.

If the first summer training session is between the freshman and sophomore year, and the second session is between the junior and senior year, that still leaves the summer between the sophomore and junior year for additional schools including Buckner.

That picture is just too funny, thanks. If I would have gone to that training from the Coast Guard they probably would have made us wear hip waders.

I love how they blend into the environment.

Best of luck to your son.

Went back and read what you wrote earlier and you are correct. For some reason I was thinking the training was btwn sophomore/junior and junior/senior years.

This would allow cadets that do not join until their junior year to train the summer before and be caught up (todays LTC).

Just curious how this will work with non-contracted students, if it is mandatory.
I guess if it is and you didn't go you would not be allowed to contract. This new summer schedule might reduce the number of cadets to begin with.

I would hope the Cadre will make a good assessment of each MS1 prior to sending them to the first training session, given that they can still drop ROTC before their sophomore year even if they are on scholarship.

I have a feeling that a lot of new MS1's that sign up for the course will decide that they got into more then they bargained for when they attend this training. I guess it's a good way to thin the herd early, although an expensive way.

I just got a letter from my son at LDAC. He is 6th Regiment so he is halfway through. He sent it on June 28th which makes it relatively up to date.

In it he mentions that his instructors have told him that he is on track for an overall E which would indicate they are still evaluating in some way. This makes me wonder about the comments saying everyone is getting an S.

He mentions the heat casualties and the girl in the coma so he is aware of what's going on at least to some degree.

Of course this is just one data point so take it for what it is.
