"Offer Extended"

guardianvg and momofthemajik,

we, also, are tired of the "in process" on Dodmerb. Son finds hope/solace in those that have received appointments without Dodmberb date/tatus ever changing!

It's hard not to worry, when others seem to be getting their appointments. Plus, we are having transcript issues (1st semester transcripts not available yet), which really stresses me out that son's future (possibly) in in the hands of one or two persons at our school! Scary thought!

We had paperwork issues too. This is at AFA. It's all good now, but we had to send everything in again and some if it again! We also had guidance counselor issues. It's all in now. And so we wait......... We're also waiting on AFROTC scholarships news which is also a nailbiter, based on the last board results! Then there's the civilian scholarships.....

We have been very patient with our counselors and schools, but I'm really starting to think that they don't get it!!! These deadlines are important! I HATE to believe that my kid's future is in their hands!!! Is that a horrible thought!

I'm curious if DoDMERB status changes after "offer extended". Anyone out there who has appointment, has your DoDMERB changed from "offer extended" to something else?

We're curious about that too. My son's AF and Navy ones still show as "offer extended", even though he has accepted AF and declined Navy. I did notice though that the date that his AF online site switched to "Appointment Accepted" (from Appointment Offered) that the Dodmerb site shows that as the new date for all of his different listings (AF, Navy, WP, and AFROTC) and at the top shows that date with the comment "Date Exam Reviewed". All I can guess is that means when they received his acceptance, with the section about medical changes, they updated Dodmerb as well.

Interesting the hit and miss nature of things. My son received a LOA dated Jan. 25th and got a call from our congressman (NC) on the 29th with congratulations on his offer of appointment. Appointment letter arrived the next week dated 2 Feb. DODMERB site hasn't updated and his admission status still reads "In Process." The news is wonderful any which way it comes.

As stated before, especially with NOM candidates the information deliberately is slow to permit the MOC the opportunity to break the news to his/her successful candidates. The time usually is about a week.

Congratulations to all who are getting their offers of appointment!

We have been very fortunate with our guidance counselor. The man truly deserves a medal of honor for all the paperwork, phone calls, letters etc he has done on behalf of our daughter. His work has paid off in three appointments and an ARTOC scholarship as well. We are at a very small HS and our staff is overjoyed to help with promoting successful students.

I am sorry it is not that way everywhere!

If you and others are continuing to have challenges with guidance counselors is it possible to schedule a meeting with counselors and maybe even principal? Sometimes a very friendly "face to face" encounter does go a long way in smoothing the path. Otherwise you are just a voice on the phone, or an email address in the inbox. Particularly if your student is handling all the paperwork, etc it is sometimes easy for academic staff to either push off or not understand the "urgency" behind the academic requests.

A meeting with the guidance counselor could clear up any misconceptions or problems or issues regarding required paperwork and might even gain you an ally in the process. The paperwork process and then the "waiting" is a long and tedious one, not without stress.

Perhaps the meeting would be a way to alleviate some of that stress and a kind "what can I do to help speed up or make this task easier for you?" request to the counselor might be just the ticket. This time of year is incredibly busy for guidance counselors, particularly at larger schools with graudation looming and many students needing various forms for colleges.

Good luck and I hope that everyone who needs it has smoother sailing with guidance counselors. If I could I would certainly loan out the "saint" that we have been fortunate enough to work with!

Son's Dodmerb just changed under USNA from "Offer extended" (back in October), to "Accepted" on 16 Feb-- ( I just noticed it today) :thumb:

House, thank you for your post.

My son and I sat down with guidance counselor last year with a list of schools and timelines. Thought she was on board, but it's been a battle ever since. I tried to step back and let son handle things, but they don't listen to the kids...only the parents.

The good news in that a very nice woman in the registrar's office manually input his 7th semester grades yesterday and faxed them off to USNA. That was the last piece he needed to submit. The rest of his application was completed in August! Now, we just wait!

Thanks again for your post!
