Official 2016 AFROTC Field Training Thread

Just write lots of letters and don't be worried if he doesn't reply too often. Cadets are extremely busy an the mail system at FT is pretty slow. Then meet him at the airport when he returns! That's what my parents did and it was great, just because of the bad mail system, I got a whole stack of letters on the last day and read them on the way to the airport on the bus... ;)

Finally found out when we're headed down south today. 5 of us from NC State Heading to Max-1. Starting to get real...

Does anyone know the official rules for alternate style sage green boots at FT? I know that in the FTM it states that alternate styles are accepted, but in the 36-2903 AFRTOC Supplement it says only det issued boots are allowed to be worn by GMC cadets.

At first, I thought this meant we could wear any sage green boots we wanted to at FT but through further analysis a few cadets and myself have decided only alternate styles of sage green boots that your det has issued may be worn (it seems like some dets have been issuing a few different styles of boots).

Thoughts? I bought these under armour boots that I would love to be able to wear to FT.

Max 5 here as well

Did y'all want 5 or a different Max? I wanted 5 to take classes in Summer 1 at my university, not have to go straight from school to FT and I have to be back before classes start in the summer.

Basically five was what was left that worked best for me

Look at which one is most recent. Unless AFROTC HQ provides an update to the FTM assume what the FTM says apply to FT.

Unless those boots you want to bring look nearly identical to those issued to you by the det, I would not risk bringing them. You will get lit up.

There was a recent change to the AFROTC sup to 36-2011 so that alternate styles of sage green boots can now be worn by GMC cadets. The FTM also says you can wear alternate styles of sage green boots.

Parent here...my son is headed to FT this summer. His mother and I (and grandparents) were looking forward to showing him our support by attending graduation. So, my question is, if no graduation ceremony how can we show our support? Will they still allow parents to come for the last day or should we just plan on showing support by writing him letters every day? Please advise.

Our son goes to school out of our state and we have missed out on going to his military events. We were looking forward to attending the final parade and getting a little more insight into his Air Force experience. I hope there is an alternative way parents can participate.

End of year parade. I believe every det has one, and parents are invited.

Just a friendly warning to all of us heading to Maxwell this summer: Be wary of Facebook groups for various Max's. There were a couple of future CTA's here who had joined a group for 200s and where seemingly gathering info on their potential trainees for the summer. I can't be certain that that is what they were doing, but POC have told us 200s multiple times to stay out of the Facebook groups until after we get back home. Not sure if it really matters! I figured someone on here could probably confirm or deny the "rumor", and it can't hurt to put the idea out there for those of us (like myself) who hadn't thought twice about it until someone brought it up. Hope y'all's exams are going well/ went well/ are hopefully going to go well soon.

Former CTA. Would highly advise against joining a FB group until post-graduation.
Some cadets posted things that...were considered 'speeding' & they received a very stern talking from their cadre prior to departure. Others, not so lucky, including posting info of cadets from their Det going back to be a CTA. That obviously didn't end well.

Skip out of it, go to ft, make a squadron or flight page when you get back cause those are the guys/gals you'll truly remember & that matter most.

Going the opposite opinion do join the FB group but don't post sensitive information such as your address/orders/airport departure/etc. You should not be actively posting on the group as CTAs and FTOs will know how much you are prepared for Field Training. It's great to lurk on the group page as I learned a lot of neat tips and tricks that help. Unless you're the one posting all of the speeding information you're not gonna be punished.

Holy s*** really no blues. A AS300 at my det called this years FT cupcake camp.

See you boys & girls at Max 3!
It was already that before the changes but now it seems worse. I may be biased but I think last year was the best for training value. MTIs, 7-8mins to eat, wake up at 0400 instead of 0500, have 5 more days of training, and actually have a graduation! I understand that it is a cost cutting measure but why extend the time to eat and cut off an entire hour each day?

We were planning on attending the Field Training final parade instead of the Det parade on campus. The Det parade was rained out and from what I hear, the Air Force has cancelled the final parade this year at Field training :(

Don't be so down about it. The time you get to spend with your family is less than 2 hours that day and the thing he wants most is to be home at that time.

My son is coming home on the 24th. We are so excited. We were surprised because we thought they couldn't communicate with us and yet we got 3 letters from him. One of his roommates gave him some paper and an envelope. If we knew he could write us, we would have sent along envelopes, stamps and paper. The last letter we received was dated the 9th but we received it on the 20th. We are concerned because we sent him three letters but based on the last letter, it doesnt seem like he got any of them. Since it took us 11 days get his, I guess it took longer for him to get ours. My wife is upset because she know thinks he never got ours and he probably thinks we never send him one. In terms of communication outside of letters, I guess not hearing anything is good new. Any other communication would mean he left early.

I am wondering if we can mail letters early. That way the cadets can read them while they are actually at field training. Does anyone know if this can be done or have the address?
